About this deal

David Rogers is a dedicated professional with a multifaceted background encompassing Engineering, automotive technology, and technical writing. This edition of Hillier's has been updated and undergone a full-colour revision featuring new photos and illustrations to engage those keen to learn the fundamentals of MVT and enhance their understanding of the core concepts whilst keeping the straightforward approach that is much admired in this authoritative manual.

This book is brilliant for students, teachers or anyone who is taking up a career in motor vehicle mechanics. I am being serious here - this is a book that anyone who owns a car should have, and should understand. Not only does it give you the fundamental basics but it also takes you to the maths and science behind everything.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I may supplement my collection with chassis/bodywork technology because I own an elderly Mercedes and it needs periodic maintenance. I own several incomplete editions of this famous 'Hilliers Fundamental of Motor Vehicle Technology' book series, spanning at least a couple decades, maybe longer. The exams for any of the IMI qualifications in Britain are written to the material given in this book. Otherwise mechanics can take advantage of you - if you don't know what a spark plug is, and does, you can be taken to the cleaners by a shady mechanic!

ANY question you will encounter on the phase tests or the exams will have an exact answer in this book. Book 2 follows on with greater depth and breadth for modern vehicle technologies and electronic based systems and is more appropriate for advanced students and for existing technicians who want to develop knowledge of the modern vehicle. Plenty of diagrams, cross sectional diagrams and references to the diagrams so you know what you're looking at and also that you know what you're reading if it is describing a difficult-to-explain-without-diagrams part/component or process. It's actually interesting - you don't need to be training to be a car mechanic to find some sort of appeal. The books, of which I believe there are currently 6 per edition, are not updated very often and seldom at the same time.
