About this deal

This pair of headphones is easy to use thanks to fully rotating ear cups and an adjustable headband that combine to make for a great seal. Leather wraps around the headband, soft textured plastic coats the subtly sculpted earcups, and the white script-style Marshall logo stands out starkly against the textured black. The sound quality is good enough for my non-audiophile ears, and the Active Noise Cancellation is acceptable. We’d have liked the soundstage to feel wider – they don’t exactly feel closed off, but some tracks demand more space to let the instrumentation ‘breathe’.

She did find the sound more balanced when I set the Marshalls to the Rock mode, but still complained that they couldn’t match the spaciousness she heard with the NADs and, to a lesser extent, with the DALIs. The brand’s latest noise-cancelling headphones, the Marshall Monitor II ANCs, bring these worlds together in a neat over-ear package, in an update to its first-ever wireless headphones, which launched in 2017. Using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone 6s, both mics allowed us to understand every word we recorded, but the wired mic was far clearer, with fewer audio artifacts than the built-in one. While the unique ergonomic construction means no matter how hard and heavy the music, they will rest lightly on your head for the perfect fit.

The ups include outstanding comfort; a very compact, travel-friendly design; effective noise canceling; and a better control system than most competitors offer. The Monitor II ANCs work with the Marshall Bluetooth app, which allows you to toggle through the different noise cancellation settings and try out different EQ presets (more on those later).

My experience using the Monitor II ANC headphones in my daily life is on par with some of the best headsets on the market. If you want a rocking alternative to the Sony WH-1000XM3, the Marshall Monitor II ANCs are a great option. And while the Monitor II ANC does have a great battery life of about 30 hours, it’s not enough to set it apart. In addition to the cables mentioned above, the package includes a denim-look carrying bag and instructions for use. Behind the hard shell of these headphones, however, there is a soft core, especially the padding, which extends under the black imitation leather of the headband over its entire length.

The entire headset can roll into a pseudo-ball shape and be carried around in a small pouch — no hard case needed. Not content with worldwide fame for its guitar amps, Marshall has also been busy stamping its own mark on the personal audio market in recent years.Adjusting them is as simple as pulling the earcup down from the headband and there’s a good size range available. We found the Marshall Monitor II ANCs to be really comfortable, thanks to their soft ear cups and well-padded headband; they’re not too heavy and don’t clamp around your ears too tightly, like some of Marshall’s on-ear headphones. But for my own use, the Marshall Monitor II ANC is the perfect headset and I don’t see myself moving away soon. It doesn’t feel intuitive to me,” she said, noting that a similar control on the Drop + THX Panda headphones was easier for her to handle. In the event you forget to recharge the headphones or if you want to connect to an inflight entertainment system or some other non-Bluetooth device, there’s also an analog cable.
