About this deal

Some of the titles of the paintings describe a situation that should be of love, happiness, or excitement, but the women there look creeped out or disgusted. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Unfortunately, this seems to be one of those "less is more" things, or a lesson in why not all Twitter threads need to be books. And then, when I was putting the book together, I had to use art in the public domain; that’s why many of those paintings are older or very obscure.

It got that classical art memes feel to it, as the author chose a number of beautiful classic paintings to add some common sentences used by different types of men, online or IRL. I would have much preferred something written by Nicole Tersigni herself, perhaps something reflective about the process of revisiting her content and putting the book together. That happens all the time and it’s so annoying: it’s one of those little things that are not a huge deal but are irritating and build up.

Men to Avoid in Art and Life' pairs classical fine art with modern captions that epitomize the spirit of mansplaining. It's in the vein of the popular comical memes that pair vintage art with sassy statements; only here, the art is classical and the statements are a painful kind of comedy as they highlight the ludicrous lows of sexism. Bitingly funny, heartbreakingly relatable, Nicole's take on the painted weary gives new meaning to 'art criticism. We had the chance to talk with Tersigni about that and about the issues that women, in the paintings and real-life, still have to struggle with. In the past, Tersigni had let those kinds of irritating conversations go, but this one sparked something in her.

She enjoys historical romance/fiction best, likes contemporaries, action- adventure and mysteries, will read suspense if there's no TSTL characters and is currently reading more fantasy and SciFi. They're split into: The mainsplainer, The concern troll, The "comedian", The sexpert, and The patronizer. I have an almost ten-year-old daughter, and I want her to know that this is not happening in her head and that she can acknowledge it and do something to fix it. Curious, hard working, and always open to learning, Italian student of Cultural Heritage Management, based in Milan.

The point of the volume stands for all people regularly condescended to by men who sail through the world pretending to be smugly superior to everyone else. We use Google Analytics to see what pages are most visited, and where in the world visitors are visiting from. I don’t usually engage with them anymore because my platform has gotten so much bigger so there’s a lot of them. Advanced electronic review copy was provided by NetGalley, author Nicole Tersigni, and the publisher. There are also quality filters so sometimes I don’t even see them, but when I do they are very easy to ignore because they are very boring and unoriginal.

She said that I was in the newspaper; she showed it to her mom and she laughed a lot, and she hadn’t heard her mom laugh in a long time. It’s a constant assessment and it’s tiring: all those little moments build up and people maybe don’t realize that, so that’s why they don’t intervene or say anything. Hotjar sets this cookie to know whether a user is included in the data sampling defined by the site's pageview limit. The artistic examples Tersigni has chosen are absolutely perfect for her material - the reader can't fail to sympathise (and empathise) with the recipients of all this masculine "insight".

The scenes are centered around a woman in a painting, with a man hovering while overexplaining something at her.

I don’t take it personally because it’s clearly from someone who has not given it a single moment of reflection. Many museums have their databases online so that you can scroll through all their collections; I went through all these museums and picked the paintings that I wanted and learned about their artists. Perhaps future books like these will feature more diversity, given the better artistic representation people of color have had in recent decades.
