The Absolute combines Dyson’s V6 digital motor, which spins at an incredible 110,000 revolutions per minute to produce a maximum 100 air watts of suction, with the cyclone technology previously used in the company’s mains-powered vacuums. The 15 cyclones are placed in two radial tiers, which preserves air pressure on its way through the vacuum and helps capture smaller dust particles. When empty, we measured suction at 11kPa, or 19kPa in MAX mode; that’s on par with some of the mains-powered vacuums we reviewed last year. Impressively, this didn’t drop at all while the battery was draining, or when the bin was half or even almost full.

You could pay hundreds of pounds over the odds if you buy a Dyson vacuum at the wrong time or from the wrong place. With our standard-sized, upright vacuums, I thought that the hard floor tests, while important for our review, were somewhat unrealistic in terms of practical, real-life application. After all, for cereal spills, you'd likely use your broom and dustpan before going to the trouble of pulling out and plugging in the vacuum cleaner. I think that the v6 would be perfect for spot cleaning in the kitchen or on any of your other hard surfaces. Additional Resources Although Dyson is no longer producing new corded vacuums, several of its plug-in models are still available on second hand market places. The trigger on/off switch means you tend to switch-off while moving between areas, but is Dyson’s claimed 20-minute run-time (14 minutes with power-tools) or the six-minute max power mode enough? Using one of the motorised brush heads will reduce this to 15 minutes, and engaging the Max mode lowers it further to six minutes total runtime. Max mode is only really necessary for big spills, and isn’t needed for day-to-day cleaning.

In my testing of the v6, I found it to be incredibly manoeuvrable. This is due in part to its light weight, but also because of a pivoting ball on the cleaner head reminiscent of the full-size Dyson ball technology. As the bulk of the weight rests in your hand, the v6 is easy to push forward when using the extension wand but you'll have no trouble using it with attachments either. While the distribution of the appliance's weight has something to do with this, the triggered power certainly doesn't hurt. Its responsiveness makes you feel completely in control, enabling you to vacuum where you need to without draining the battery more than necessary. For even smaller detail cleaning jobs, a combined standard nozzle/dusting brush and long crevice tool are supplied too. All of the tools can be used on the handheld unit or on the extension tube and, as we have come to expect from Dyson, everything clips together easily. Despite being a cordless vacuum cleaner, this Dyson Cyclone V10 transforms difficult cleaning tasks into a lightweight and natural experiences with powerful suction that’s second-to-none. With a Torque drive cleaner head, the Cyclone can remove up to 25% more dustfrom the standard hard floor or upholstery than other Dyson vacuums, making it one of the most powerful Dyson options to date.
