About this deal

When you wash at temperatures below 60°C, bacteria can survive, and can be transmitted between garments in the wash. If we spend our lives trying to kill all germs that might be on our clothes, the water table will be so full of chemicals that pollution levels will rise yet further.

When you wash clothes at temperatures below 60°C with laundry detergent alone, bacteria can survive in your washing machine and on your clothes. Unless we have compromised immunity our bodies can cope with (a reasonable amount) of everyday dirt, indeed it does children good as expose is necessary for a developing immune system. For used clothing – no soiling – place the items into the washing machine and wash at the hottest temperature the fabric will withstand. That’s not so surprising, as it started its life in hospitals where it was used in surgical procedures to clean cuts, wounds etc.Unless we all did antibacterial testing on our items I don’t think anyone knows which works the best. Gives odour-free freshness for up to 12 hours** It doesn't just cover up malodour but eliminates odour causing bacteria at source.

Even if you insist on drinking bottled water (and I most sincerely hope you don’t), it’s nice to know you have potable water to make your tea and boil your vegetables in.Take advantage of our monogramming/lettering service with no set-up charge, for personalising your uniforms by adding your Business Name, Salon Name etc. germs and bacteria are removed when washing at 60 degrees, would you say that soap is enough and therefore washing above 30 degrees (unless for tough stains on towels and bed sheets) is unnecessary? PS: admittedly, I bought a different brand version of this to save two t-shirts for which nothing else seems to work. Hi again Ken, thanks for writing back – this is entirely the kind of discourse I hoped this blog would encourage. I’m unable to give you a definitive answer to this and it wouldn’t come well from me if I were to be too didactic – I never had children myself!

However, if you’ve been unable to maintain proper physical distance from others, or if someone has coughed or sneezed near you, it’s a good idea to wash your clothes. I also used cloth nappies for all four of my children, but never used any sanitising products in the washing machine, just pre-rinse, hot wash (60 degrees) and extra rinse to get rid of the detergent. I now use this for all my laundry items, especially towels used for swimming, which now have a lovely fresh smell after washing. I myself have bought this in the past, with the idea that I may be killing off such unwanted germs when washing kids clothes and bedding.

Can dettol laundry sanitiser cause water blisters as an allergic reaction when sheets and nightie washed in it by my well meaning carer? Ooh, that’s very encouraging that you found it by accident, that must mean it’s doing ok in the rankings. A washing machine obviously cannot do this and depending on the load in the machine you will likely also get variable “cleanliness”.
