About this deal

Substitutions: In all my recipes, I've included substitutions that I know will work, but I cannot guarantee results if you substitute ingredients that I have not recommended. [For example, granulated sugar and honey are indeed both sweeteners but they have very different properties so they can not always be swapped 1:1. Using honey in a cookie recipe that calls for granulated sugar will yield a giant mess.] In the recipe card you'll find links to the specific ingredients/brands that I use.

Stir in about half of the flour mixture. Then stir in the milk and the remaining flour mixture and mix until fully combined. You can also freeze the entire pie. And yet, if for some reason, you cannot use cornstarch – try arrowroot powder or potato starch. I have used both on two different occasions – and there is not much difference. Should you use Sweet or Sour Cherries for cherry pie? Sour, tart cherries (sometimes called “pie” cherries) are most commonly used in desserts like cherry pie. If using sweet cherries, decrease the sugar in this recipe by at least ⅓ cup. Indulge in a slice of homemade Cherry Jello Pie recipe. With a luscious layer of cherry jello and cherry pie filling and topped with almond-infused whipped cream, this dessert is sure to become a favorite for gatherings and special occasions.x 9″ Pie Crust. Use store-bought or use my recipe for the best homemade pie crust. It forms the base of the pie and provides a delicious crust to hold the cherry jello and cherry pie filling. In spite of this trifle being rich and chocolatey, the fluffy mousse and Cool Whip keep it from being too heavy or filling.

Tip the dough out onto a clean work surface and bring together with your hands. Wrap tightly in cling film and place in the fridge to firm up for about 4 hours. Can you use frozen cherries to make cherry pie filling? Yes, you can use frozen cherries to make cherry pie filling. They typically don’t need to be thawed beforehand, since they will warm up during the cooking process. However, frozen cherries have more moisture than fresh cherries, so you may need to adjust the amount of cornstarch to compensate for the extra liquid. Either way, we generally use sour or tart cherry varieties when making pie filling because they create a pleasantly balanced, but tangy flavor. However, any type of cherry can be used, some may just result in a sweeter flavor profile. Overcooking the fruit filling causes the cornstarch to become lumpy. If that happens just add a little water and cook to the right consistency.
