About this deal

I think I have enough to keep this train rolling for a few weeks, so I’m explicitly going to try my hardest to do that. Since our kids are older, they’ll try to make the stack as challenging as possible by just piling straight up. All of that said, a bit less randomness might make it more my speed (I’d love, for instance, rolling to determine how you place the animal, rather than how many animals or which animal you place), but also, not every game is designed for me personally, so, whatever.

I mean, this is a very cute game, which is to be expected from HABA, but I particularly love the snake. On your turn, you roll a die to determine which action you must take: will it be adding one or more animals to the pyramid in the middle, or will you get lucky and be able to offload one of your pieces onto someone else or place it on the table to extend the base?I thought it was the type of game that would be quickly outgrown, but Elliot is showing me otherwise.

HABA is internationally known for producing German quality wooden toys and award-winning games; many of which were developed by Educators and NeuroScience Professionals to help incorporate crucial areas of learning into play. Often, being able to place two animals is a pretty significant boon, so it’s kind of frustrating when it’s randomly determined. The set up time in the game last as long as it takes to place the alligator in the center of the table and hand all the players their set of animals. Each player is given 7 different animal tokens and they roll a die and either stack or pass an animal to another player.

It’s a bit more about managing weight than playing with interesting physics, which is always my favorite part of stacking games. The name’s kind of a mouthful, now that I get around to typing it, but the game itself works pretty well.

We have a house rule which my kids think is a blast because we actually do an animal draft with a 3-player game and we always use this rule with this player count. Stars – A fun dexterity game that will help all players of all ages learn or sharpen their stacking and placement skills. Each player then is given 7 different animal tokens: a sheep, penguin, monkey, snake, tucan, collar lizard, and hedgehog. This strategy got a bit darker in our plays as my kids purposely placed animals as to make the next player collapse the stack and most of this was directed at me (I taught them well).

Here you’ll find all our top game recommendations so you and your family can play only the best games together! Who will position the penguin on top of the crocodile, the sheep on top of the penguin, the serpent on the sheep, the tucan . Animal Upon Animal gives the kids a fun distraction that will test their motor skills and help improve them as they play. If there are fewer than four players, randomly distribute the remaining ones so that everyone gets roughly an equal amount.

Elliot] I expected it to be like the other Junior HABA games – the My Very First Games – where it’s like the original game, just the pieces are bigger, so it’s easier for littler kids. Just like HABA’s other My Very First Games, the rule book suggests lots of different ways to play, starting with letting your toddler freely play with the pieces, maybe naming what some animals are and trying to fit them together in different ways.
