About this deal

In addition, since Sony E-mount camera bodies do not require mechanical integration with lenses for aperture control, the MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 makes SIGMA SA mount interchangeable lenses and SIGMA interchangeable lenses for Canon cameras fully compatible with the automatic exposure control of Sony E-mount camera bodies. I don't agree with your premise. Admittedly, it seems difficult to get a solid report of all the lens compatibilities across all the bodies and body and adapter firmware versions, but my impression is that, for LA-EA3 (Metabones Green Mode) functionality, the MC-11 does very well.

I used the MC-11 with the A7R III and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, EF 50mm f/1.8 II, EF 100mm f/2.0 and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lenses. I found the autofocus (AF) worked well with each of them although as you might expect, the performance was better with the higher-grade optics. For other "unsupported" lenses, the MC-11 seems to work as well as the LA-EA3 works for most motorized A mount lenses. That means slow CDAF on pre-A7II bodies, and fast PDAF or slow CDAF on newer bodies. It does not attempt to provide any native emulation for non Sigma GV lenses. Before updating SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 firmware, please ensure you update SIGMA Optimization Pro to the latest version. It has become compatible with the SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC HSM | Art for CANON EF mount, that has the latest firmware Ver.2.00.

Which left the new recruits to L-Mount out on a bit of a compatibility limb - only the reasonably priced MC-21, with a scatter of Canon EF lenses compatible, and priced reasonably in such a way as to make it harder for third party manufacturers to enter this market in competition. Note: Before updating the MC-11 firmware, please ensure SIGMA Optimization Pro has been updated to ver. 1.4.1 or later for Windows, and ver. 1.4.0 or later for Macintosh. Da das 50mm 1.8 in etwa dem 50mm 1.8 von Sony gleicht was ich besitze ist es ir auch nicht so wichtig wie z.B. das 24-70 oder das 70-200. Ah, I was confused by this sentence, "I strongly suspect that the other adapter vendors have much more experience in Canon EF lens protocols." The adapter transmits EXIF data to the camera, which is a big plus. You can see the focal length, shutter speed, and working aperture for any shot, just as you can with a native lens. That was until very recently when Fotodiox introduced their Fusion adapter EF-L - which I confirm is already doing much better than the MC-21. It doesn't focus at the same speed as Sony native lens. Example: My Sony 24-70 f2.8 takes less than half a second to acquire focus. While the adapted lens takes at minimum half a second to a second. If that half a second is required for you. Than you better off getting the native lens. I haven't surveyed a lot of other adapters, but I can tell you that Viltrox certainly doesn't know as much about EF protocols. This can be seen with common mistakes they make like misidentifying full frame lenses as crop lenses and forgetting to stop down apertures when firing in AF-C.

The Canon 135/2.0L is regarded as one of Canon’s sharpest lenses - it surely is sharp when it hits the button. The converter feels quite solid and mounts very cleanly to the A7R MK1 test camera used for the review. The lens provided by Sigma for testing with the converter is the 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art which the adapter also mated to tightly. Aesthetically, the lens and converter matched fantastically.

Come the L-Mount Sigma provides the MC-21 electronic adapter which seem to work quite well with most Sigma EF mount lenses but is not particularly compatible with Canon EF mount lenses. SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art, SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art, SIGMA 85mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art, SIGMA 135mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art, SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art, SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | Art, SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary But I have passed down a test exercise with four different brands of electronic adapters over two mount systems and would like to see if the MC-11 might work where the MC-21 is not compatible. Obviously if I was returning to Sony FE I would not be impressed with the MC-11 either. Surely only those who buy exclusively Sigma EF mount lenses would buy an “MC”? Just one Canon or other brand EF lens and it may of may not be a “bonus lens” and you should have bought another adapter which will work all the Sigma EF lenses and give you a much wider range of bonuses. That is about where I am coming from. Thanks Alan, a very good explanation. Sigma obviously has all the L-Mount protocols, being part of the L-Mount grouping. It is probably in the box seat to get the best L-EF adapter but at the same time I can and have always espoused the obvious that Sigma only have a charter to make all Sigma EF mount lenses work with their lenses and any other brand EF lenses that work are just a bonus. But the bonus has not been good enough for this L-Mount early adopter of Panasonic camera bodies. And there was nowhere else to turn other than Novoflex whose adapter was originally made for EF-SL and Leica bodies and priced at a level that would make even Metabones blanche. Furthermore the Novoflex adapter has an even worse compatibility than the MC-21.

Note: The adapter exists in two versions: SA (Sigma mount) and EF (Canon mount). For this article I tested the EF version. Switching from one camera brand to another is an expensive business and anything that helps you avoid, or delay the need to change all your lenses is a bonus. The Sigma MC-11 allows anyone switching to a Sony A7, a5000, A6000-series mirrorless camera to make use of their existing Canon and Sigma optics. It has become compatible with the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | Art for SIGMA, that has the latest firmware Ver.1.04. We were keen to try out some of our Sigma EF lenses on the range-topping Sony A7R II to find out what the AF performance is actually like, and if the combination of the worlds' smallest full-frame camera and Sigma's chunky Art lenses actually makes sense (or indeed work at all). However when the variation in speed and distance is more substantial, the camera has more difficulty with continuous AF and continuous shooting. During the Tonfanau motorbike race, the AF simply couldn’t follow the bikers exiting from a corner or coming in a straight line. It progressively loses the focus point. I got an average keeper rate of 30% with both cameras with the a6300 performing marginally better. I tested all the Area modes and tried different settings like Balanced Emphasis instead of AF priority but the results were always the same. The areas that work best are Zone and Expand Flexible spot. Both the A7r II and a6300 lose focus progressively as the subject gets closer when shooting in burst mode.Using continuous shooting with intervals allowed me to get sharp shots of the bikers exiting the corner. MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 is ideal for professional photographers who use different camera systems depending on the subject, as well as amateur photographers who enjoy using a variety of camera systems. Increasing the compatibility of lenses with different camera systems makes these assets more valuable than ever. In addition, users of Sony E-mount camera bodies will enjoy an immediate increase in the number of lenses available to them The adapter transmits all the necessary information to the camera including EXIF data. Distortion, chromatic aberration and vignetting are automatically corrected in the OOC JPG if you have the settings to Auto in the camera. In Lightroom you just need to select Sigma in the Brand drop-down menu and the correct lens profile is loaded automatically. L'autofocus è operativo e riesce quasi sempre ad agganciare correttamente il soggetto; tuttavia con la a7 risulta abbastanza lento. Recognising the growing popularity of the Sony A-series, Sigma announced their own lens adapter earlier this year, the snappily titled Global Vision MC-11 Lens Mount Converter, which ostensibly supports 16 Sigma Canon Mount (EF) and Sigma Mount (SA) lenses ( current list here). Going one better than the Metabones adapter, the MC-11 also promises to support the full range of Sony AF modes, including Eye-AF. Ease of Use
