About this deal

If you are having a budget constraint or not so sure whether you need a mesh network, I would recommend getting just one MR2200ac and use it as a router. But you can pick the uplink type, including wired, and the band (5GH-1 or 5GHz-) used for wireless backhaul. Been going through a lot of your articles and re-reading quite a few times, but there’s a few things that I’m just not feeling confident on. I am looking at the RT6600AC w/ a wireless backhaul to an MR2200AC, mostly to reach some of the outdoor IoT devices. I do have 3 rooms in the house with ethernet ports going to ther garage where my fiber connection and main router will go, and the satellite will be plugged via ethernet in one of the other rooms.

Note: Remember that the higher the MR2200ac router is placed, the better the Wi-Fi signal is distributed. However, what's even more significant is the fact that, together with it, Synology released a new firmware that adds some unique and notable features, including robust mesh functionality. If you are using your ISP's Wi-Fi hardware, and want better performance and coverage, this is a solution that can change your network coverage without having to run wires throughout the office or home. I cannot use this functionality via my Synology NAS, because the NAS is not online 24/7 as opposed to the router.

But I’d like to be able to use the VLAN to tag specific ports on both the satellite and the primary. I’d still recommend running cable — you need just one so that you can place the router in the middle or add one more broadcaster.

Partly, because (now retired) I have worked in IT, and Network administrative roles, but still love playing with this stuff.
