But lingering questions remain for each of them, and the missed Valentine’s Day plants the seeds for a shift in Joseph’s relationships.

So because I did love the Flatshare, I don’t mind borrowing this one from the library, but I’ll only give it so many pages to rope me in before I take it back. I loved every female character in this book, but I must admit my heart really did fall for Jane, the sweetest character with a lot of self-doubt and worry, I was really rooting for Janey and so the ending (if you’ve read the book) made my heart swell!Without giving away the major twist of the book and ruining the whole reader experience, I think it’s important that readers know that only 2 of the 3 women get a romance HEA. That one felt like chick lit , which I generally dislike and have to be in a very particular mood to read.

The three women are angry, worried, or unsurprised to be stood up, depending on their personal level of self-esteem and patience. He’s either a heartless bastard or the great guy he mostly appears to be, but how to reconcile the two?Rereading the blurb, it’s clear that to some degree I didn’t read closely enough, because one of the assumptions was that this was going to be “three women get together and get revenge on the cad who broke all of their hearts”, which is actually not indicated. There’s some unexpected twists that I didn’t see coming that make all the threads feel satisfying in the end. We get to know this womanising cad through three leading ladies Siobhan, Miranda and Jane, all of whom have been stood up on Valentine’s Day. Strong prose and characterization go a long way with her, though if they are combined with an unusual plot or setting, all the better. Anyone who knows my reviews knows I value readability highly (sometimes to a fault; occasionally I’ve struggled to grade a book that was both a page-turner and also kind of dreadful).

But they actually occur in completely different years and Joseph’s reason for hiding the fact that he wasn’t alone at breakfast has a reasonable explanation. Janine: I think the only reason the manipulation didn’t bother me as much is because I was expecting *something.

Beth O'Leary is that rare, one-in-a-million talent who can make you laugh, swoon, cry and ache all in the same book and The No-Show is her most moving yet. This information is going behind spoiler tags so please note it is a Major Spoiler, but I’m keeping the specifics somewhat vague.

Once they’ve each forgiven him for standing them up, they are all in serious danger of falling in love with a man who may have not just one or two but three women on the go…. This book is pretty comparable to The Switch, but because of the problems I’ve mentioned with the plot, I think I’ll give it a straight B. I must admit my opinion on him greatly changes about halfway through the book, without giving too much away, the character development of Joseph is actually really quite moving.I liked all the female protagonists (even though I kind of wanted Jane to get over being a drip and deal with her trauma, whatever it was).
