About this deal

Learn how to make homemade OxiClean. You can make this magical laundry booster and stain fighter yourself with household items like washing soda and hydrogen peroxide. OxiClean is great as a pre-treatment for stains and a great laundry booster but it’s expensive! I’ll show you how to make your own for just pennies a load. Homemade OxiClean Hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate are not carcinogenic, nor a neurotoxin. However, bothsodiumcarbonate andsodium percarbonatecan be caustic to the body. The amount of sodium percarbonatein household products usually does not cause problems. However, exposure to the pure chemical can cause burns, skin irritation, eye irritations and even blindness. Inhalation can cause throat irritation and coughing. DIY OxiClean Recipe Tips Ingredients: Chlorine bleach contains water and sodium hypochlorite. OxiClean contains sodium percarbonate, sodium carbonate, surfactants, and polymer. Only use it with water: Never mix bleach with other chemicals because it can create dangerous fumes. Water is the only safe element to mix with bleach. It serves as a carrier and a diluting agent. Food or Food Prep Tools: Don’t use OxiClean or bleach to wash produce, meat, or any food. Avoid using both products to clean food prep tools such as knives or kitchen shears.

Editor's Note (August 2023): This product review was originally written and published in 2020. To make sure we are still recommending the best products for your needs, we recently reviewed this story to make sure it is still accurate and that we stand by what we wrote. Despite newer models and options being available, we still feel confident that this product is one of the best choices, and therefore have included it in The Best Laundry Whiteners. How to Use the Products: Both products are effective in cleaning scenarios around the house, from sanitizing surfaces to laundry, but they require different methods of use. For example, you can soak clothes in OxiClean for several hours. With chlorine bleach, you can only soak white clothes for 5-10 minutes. Yes, you can make your own homemade OxiClean and it works just like the original product. How do you make your own OxiClean? In general, yes it will be cheaper but not if you are buying really expensive washing soda. If you already have the supplies in your laundry room for other homemade cleaners then it's great to whip up in a pinch but if you are going through the stuff fast then it's worth buying the supplies in large bulk quantities. Turns out that pre-soaking the stains made a huge difference. While you can pre-soak for one to six hours depending on how bad your stains are, we went for the full six to see how Revive performed under optimal conditions. Turns out that worked, as the streaks of grass, mustard, and butter were completely gone and while there was a hint of mud and pasta sauce left behind, you really had to know it was there in the first place and see it in just the right light. Needless to say, we were impressed.

Is OxiClean toxic?

It’s essential to use bleach according to its label’s instructions. Disregarding them could ruin fabrics or surfaces and pose a health risk. Difference 5: Safety Always dilute: Full-strength bleach is potent. Refrain from pouring bleach directly on clothes or surfaces. Red wine– For red wine stains, I use this DIY natural stain remover. Plus it even works on upholstery! Look to OxiClean™ whenever you’re dealing with musty aromas in your laundry or around the house. Ways to Use OxiClean™ in Your Bathroom Or, simply add OxiClean to your washer drum before adding clothes or detergent in regular or high-efficiency machines. It acts as a laundry detergent booster, cleaner, and sanitizer.

Because there are no harsh or caustic chemical ingredients in OxiClean, and because it breaks down into oxygen and water, it is considered a very environmentally friendly product. Is OxiClean Safe for Fabric? Sodium carbonate is also known as soda ash, and is sold separately as washing soda. It’s like baking soda’s cousin that you sometimes hear about and is often used as an ingredient in all natural cleaning recipes and as a laundry booster on it’s own. Bleach doesn’t have as many uses as OxiClean, but it is an effective laundry aid, odor destroyer, disinfectant, and stain fighter.

Oil stains– Grease stains from oil-based products are some of the worst to get out in the wash! Dish soap and warm water work well here though. Read more to find out how else OxiClean™ can get rid of stains on clothing and throughout your home. Use OxiClean™ to Get Rid of Pet Stains and Smells Metals: OxiClean powder isn’t a good option for most metals, but rinse it immediately if you decide to use it. Don’t use bleach on metal; it will oxidize stainless steel and cause it to rust.
