About this deal

Jericho is a detective unlike any other. And one to watch.” David J Gatward, author of the DCI Harry Grimm thrillers If you thought Benoit Blanc was your favourite queer detective then you’re absolutely wrong, it is very much Scott Jericho. So do yourself a favour and read this before I have to start gently tapping people round the head with it.. did I say please? No? Okay please read this, thank you very much. You best believe I’ve found myself a new instant buy author! Dark, exciting, furiously-paced and full of twists, KILLING JERICHO sets the stage for a unique detective' Alex Smith All in all though, this was a little too dark for me, with too many characters getting away with some very dark deeds. However if you like your mysteries dark and well-written, this might well be for you. The only connection appears to be a tragedy that happened to a group of 5 travellers who were killed in a bridge collapse 150 years before.

Jericho A Summary and Analysis of Joshua and the Fall of Jericho

Firstly, thank you to Netgalley, Bonnier Books UK and William Hussey for the opportunity to read the current ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. It's a wild ride of a story filled with gothic tones, fairground/traveller myths and legends, grotesque series of murders, and twists I never saw coming until the very end. Crime fiction is crying out for more diversity, and in Scott Jericho we have been gifted a blisteringly new brand of hero - SARAH HILARY, award-winning author of FRAGILE and the DI Marnie Rome thrillers Killing Jericho was, in all honesty, an exercise in frustration. If you like the kind of mysteries that are typified (in my mind) by shows like Whitechapel, all theatrics and quite a lot of suspension of disbelief required, then it’s likely that you will get along with this one. I, on the other hand, did not.Born into the vibrant world of the travelling showpeople, Jericho’s early life has granted him not only a keen understanding of human nature but the unique skills of a formidable detective. Now, through Jericho's eyes as he investigates the most mysterious and macabre of cases, Will Harker will guide you into the heart of this unseen world. By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land. Now the gates of Jericho ( F) were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in. Pop along to Waterstones Chelmsford where William will be signing copies of his book from 12 – 12.45pm. He will then visit HM Prison Chelmsford Library for an author talk (closed event). In partnership with Essex Libraries. Author events at the prison provide a platform for prisoners to connect with the outside world. Waterstones Chelmsford, 76 High Street, Chelmsford, CM1 1EJ

Scott Jericho thought he’d worked his last case. Fresh out of jail, the disgraced former detective is forced to seek refuge with the fairground family he once rejected. Then a series of bizarre murders comes to light – deaths that echo a century-old fairground legend. The police can’t connect the victims. But Jericho knows how the legend goes; that more murders are certain to follow. Nigro, Lorenzo (2020). "The Italian-Palestinian Expedition to Tell es-Sultan, Ancient Jericho (1997–2015)". In Sparks, Rachel T.; Finlayson, Bill; Wagemakers, Bart; SJ, Josef Mario Briffa (eds.). Digging Up Jericho: Past, Present and Future. Archaeopress Publishing Ltd. ISBN 978-1789693522. Amazing, as expected. Being familiar with the authors YA novel, I had high expectations. He met them.having a hope in God, which they themselves also await, that there is about to be a resurrection, both of the just and of the unjust Acts 24:15 I can't say I ever fully invested as I felt it was slow going. Scott's "amazing detective skills" were just a bit too unbelievable for me. I also found some parts predictable and wondered how Scott didn't see or pursue them given how he's "so talented". I really want to read more long-running series this year. I have been meaning to read more Discrworld books and this year I am aiming to get as many as I can in! I have some series that I have started but haven't finished. I have some books that I have owned for YEARS and justhaven'tgotten around to so I want to try and cut some of them down thisyear. I'd also like to sort out my Netgalley percentage which... LETS NOT GO THERE! I did do a month last year where I only read Netgalley proofs and managed to get my percentage up a whopping 3% (lol) so maybe I'll manage to sort some of those out thisyear too! Scott Jericho is an unusual detective with many flaws. He’s intelligent and insightful but also temperamental and abrasive. He loves books, and his dream has always been to become a writer. Until the Malanowski case. Oh, and he’s gay. It’s just a given, no more and no less. It’s refreshing to read queer rep like this. And I loved Haz, by the way! Then they burned the whole city ( AI) and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron ( AJ) into the treasury of the Lord’s house. ( AK) 25 But Joshua spared ( AL) Rahab the prostitute, ( AM) with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho ( AN)—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.

I was gripped my the plot and the sub-plots of Jericho dealing with being newly released from prison, re-meeting a university love interest as part of his investigation and dealing with his nemesis, Kerrigan, the criminal he was jailed for viciously beating. Ex detective and Traveller tries to unravel three seemingly unconnected staged murders after leaving prison. Then a series of bizarre murders comes to light – deaths that echo a century-old fairground legend. The police can’t connect the victims. But Jericho knows how the legend goes; that more murders are certain to follow. I absolutely bloody loved this one, I can’t even begin to tell you how damn good it is. It kept me on the edge of my seat (it was a pillow because I was in bed, but let’s just go with a seat) and just kept ramping up the tension the further into I got. I never actually guessed who the killer was (I’m still a tad bitter with myself about that because I thought I was a good detective…), and I flew through it in a couple of hours because I just couldn’t put it down, but now I’m in desperate need of book two and it’s not going to be released for a while.

A distinctive detective, a striking setting, and macabre murders - what more could a reader ask for? - JOHN CONNOLLY, Sunday Times bestselling author of the Charlie Parker series Note that even the animals had become defiled by such depravity; this is why they too had to be destroyed. We further read: On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times. ( Q) 16 The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city! ( R) 17 The city and all that is in it are to be devoted [ b] ( S) to the Lord. Only Rahab the prostitute ( T) and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid ( U) the spies we sent. 18 But keep away from the devoted things, ( V) so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction ( W) and bring trouble ( X) on it. 19 All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron ( Y) are sacred to the Lord and must go into his treasury.” And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

Killing Jericho (William Hussey) – Book Review – Set The Tape

Dever, William G. (2006). Who Were the Early Israelites and Where Did They Come From?. Eerdmans. ISBN 978-0802844163. As the son of a fairground showman, he has now used his inside knowledge of this still largely hidden community to create a detective unlike any other. Killing Jericho needs to be on every crime fiction fans list, it is written extremely well by William Hussey, you can feel his love and passion for his people (the son of a travelling showman himself) and it is an important book within the travelling community and also the LGQBT+ community, and I really hope that Killing Jericho wins prizes and gets the recognition that is so deserved. The twist/ending I did not see coming and it did not spoil my enjoyment with it coming out of nowhere (although now finished, hindsight is a marvellous thing 😆). Spoiler: Dramatic licence was indeed well used by the author to allow Scott Jericho to survive his final run in with Kerrigan ahead of the conclusion with the killer. I love William Hussey’s writing! It’s fascinating and captivating, and unputdownable. William writes 'showing' like no other, whether it’s a YA contemporary or an adult thriller. Whereas his YA novels are written bluntly but on the softer side, this thriller is rougher and darker and sometimes more graphic. This unique story had all the elements I love about a thriller and more - a dark and gruesome series of murders, full of twists whilst feeling wholly original. A beautifully wrought and fantastically gothic thriller that introduces a brilliant new detective quite unlike any I've met before. It left me hungry for more! - SJ WATSON, Sunday Times bestselling author of BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP Darkly original, suspenseful and haunting. From the gothic undertones, to the fresh protagonist and ratcheting tension, Killing Jericho is a first-class thriller - CHRIS WHITAKER, bestselling author of We Begin at the End William Hussey is in top form in his latest novel Killing Jericho. Scott Jericho lives on the periphery of society in a community of traveling circus folk. After serving time in prison Scott is trying to leave the past behind him, but a professor reaches out to him to find out who has committed a number of recent murders. Scott is intrigued and begins to investigate.
