Throughout the book I questioned humanity. The main character (Joe) often asked, "Why me?" and I couldn't understand why anyone deserved this kind of treatment. How do people do that to their children? How do you carry a baby for 9 months, and then sell them sexually for money? You might be the type who doesn’t remember the last time you cried, but your body is still producing 5 to 10 ounces of tears every day. How many tears do you cry in a lifetime? Blubbering: Unattractive, loud crying. Characterized by mutters, truncated, erratic breathing, clinched facial expressions and hunched As we age into adulthood, emotional tears are increasingly triggered by a broader range of feelings including: physical pain; attachment-related pain; empathic, compassionate pain; societal pain and sentimental or moral feelings. Crying As a Social Signal Once considered “purposeless” by the evolutionary great Charles Darwin, tears are now recognized as an essential aspect of our physical and emotional health.

Crying for long periods of time releases oxytocin and endogenous opioids, otherwise known as endorphins. These feel-good chemicals can help ease both physical and emotional pain. Babies’ lacrimal glands are not fully developed at birth and can’t produce tears, but they still need to be able to signal when they’re in distress or need care, so they vocalize. Some people wail loudly, while others may whimper softly. The volume, tone, and rhythm of the crying can reflect the intensity and nature of the emotions the character is experiencing. The silent tears can be the most powerful, as they suggest a deep, underlying sadness that the character is struggling with. If this happens, be sure to consult your doctor and detail your symptoms so you can receive the proper treatment, Dr. Roizen advises. When to seek help But did you know that not every tear is made up of the same material? And while some people cry more than others, it’s OK: You can cry if you want to. Dr. Roizen walks us through all of the amazing facts about the fluid that fills your eyes each and everyday. Why do we cry?

On the contrary, a character crying in the company of others can indicate a sense of trust or desperation.

Is tearless crying normal?

Consider your character’s circumstances and their personality when describing the sound of their crying. I'm thinking it would be kind of easier if it was the protagonist experiencing someone else in that situation. In that sense if they were in a situation (for example) where the protagonist was the best friend, of a girl who had just been dumped, not only would you have to describe her crying but the gestures she makes as well as the gestures the protagonist makes ( Oh, and metaphors help HEAPS .)
