About this deal

You install the PetSafe catflap in much the same way as you would any other (see our guide here) or watch the video below for an overview A traditional cat flap presents a number of problems including allowing other cats to freely enter your home and they make it impossible to place restrictions on your cat’s comings and goings. Available in either brown or white this cat flap can identify your cat using their 9, 10 or 15 digit pin which is stored on their under the skin microchip, if your cat doesn’t have a microchip you can use a simple RFID tag which is attached to their collar. Please avoid the Biotherm temperature chip as it does not work with the microchip cat flap. If your cat has a Biotherm chip we would recommend sewing a Bayer Tracer Advance chip into a collar and putting it on your cat to allow your cat to use the Pet Porte microchip cat flap.

The outer plastic case of the cat flap measures 23cm wide by 23cm high and is approx 4.3cm deep. It comes in two parts that bolt together – an inside part with the controls and the flap itself, and an outside part with a porch that houses the scanner. These are connected together by a wire. Dimensions of the external sensor porch If you already have a cat flap installed the installation process should be fairly simple however the cat flap hole may require some reworking to make it fit.

Selective Entry is a feature that you (should) find on every single microchip cat flap. This is configured to your cat’s microchip and allows it to come in but prevents other cats from coming in. This cat flap requires 4 AA batteries. These should easily last 6 months before they require replacing and have been known to last as long as 12 months with just one cat using it. If your cat has an old style 10 digit microchip that was fitted many years ago it will not work with the Pet Porte range of microchip cat flaps so you have two options. Either you can sew a new Bayer Tracer Advance chip into a cat collar – or you could find a vet who would be willing to re-chip your cat with a new Bayer Tracer Advance chip which would take over from the old 10 digit microchip. We only recommend Bayer Tracer Advance chips for that purpose. Some vets will not re-chip cats unless there are exceptional circumstances such as other cats coming in and causing your cat distress. What are the options for AC power and battery power?

Press both buttons together. The cat flap is now in test mode. The red light will flash when it detects a microchip, and the green light will flash when it recognises your cat's microchip. By default the Pet Porte will alert you of their movements by making a soft “beep” when a cat enters or leaves.

The Petsafe Microchip cat flap takes your insulation seriously, cutting a big hole out of your door to install a cat flap can compromise the heat retention capabilities of your door. If you are going to place it in a wall or a glass door then specialist tools will be required and it would be worth booking a professional to install it. If you only have a couple of cats using it you can expect the batteries to last for as long as 12 months.
