We’re definitely impressed with how much Engine DJ has evolved since its introduction on the original Denon DJ PRIME equipment six years ago. In terms of its basic specifications, the Mixstream Pro Plus is a two-channel, all-in-one design with a high-definition seven-inch touchscreen. It’s fully standalone in operation, to the extent of including built-in speakers for practice sessions. Jog wheels are fairly large 6-inch touch-sensitive units with a good, responsive feel. Elsewhere, the layout is generally standard stuff, a well-established formula of central mixer section with effects paddles, four performance pads under each jog wheel and relatively short pitch faders. At under 60 centimetres wide and 30 centimetres deep, the Pro Plus weighs in under four kilograms, making it light and portable enough to be transported easily. It isn’t necessarily aimed at pro club installations, but the feature set of the Mixstream makes it a solid option for home use, house parties and occasional use in a bar or club setting. Build quality is certainly impressive for the price point, feeling like it’ll stand up to plenty of use. Over the last few years, Engine OS has been updated to provide new and improved features to the products running it. There are more updates planned offering more exciting and innovative features to the Prime 4 + and others units in the line.
The Engine 3.1 update offers DJs freedom like they’ve never had before, from interactive touch FX to creating your own unique Smartlist. Engine DJ embedded operating system for laptop-free performances and cutting-edge features like embedded Sampler, Remote Library access, onboard song analysis, Touch FX, and more! The Numark Mixstream Pro Go is the world’s first fully wireless standalone DJ Controller without needing a laptop, wires or even an existing music library. This is possible thanks to the rechargeable battery, built-in speakers, USB/SD card slots, Wi-Fi and wireless smart home lighting control. Wi-Fi Compatibility This awesome addition is really enjoyable to use and makes the whole Mixstream series feel revitalised. Computer Mode for use as a software controller for Serato DJ (in an upcoming release) and Virtual DJThe position of the speakers is a little odd (they’re where your hands naturally fall when mixing) – but of course if you’ve seen or played on the Numark Mixstream Pro or Pro+ units, this will all seem very familiar. That’s because apart from the addition of the rechargeable battery, the Numark Mixstream Pro Go is exactly the same controller as its stablemates. Finally, while it is totally possible to plug your own speakers in to this unit (or indeed plug it in at a venue for DJing in public), for practising or even for tiny, living room parties, the built-in speakers will be what you’ll probably start with. The effects are currently not switchable with software but are well-chosen and offer enough variety to keep mixes interesting.
Despite the brand, this looks and feels “pro”–Numark is a consumer brand, but this console feels more or less “pro”, being nice and weighty, and well built even though it is made of plastic (somehow the grey paint job suits it better than the darker colours of the Mixstream Pro+) This means if you already have a vast library set with performance data created with another DJ software, the Mixstream Pro can swiftly read and translate it into Engine DJ with ease! but you can still use DJ software if you like –VirtualDJ’s implementation for this is particularly fine, making full use of the touchscreen, but also it works with Serato, and both of those platforms will give you real-time stems separation, for instance. Having the choice of standalone or laptop DJing makes it an even more universal device
Engine DJ 3.1 also brings new Sampler updates! Sampler audio can now be routed to any available channel, or to the main output. Access this by double-pressing the Roll pad mode button. The possibilities are endless! When the Mixstream Pro (Plus/GO) is powered on, it will be set to Standalone mode. To switch to Computer mode and control VirtualDJ you need to ... Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided. A popular suggestion about previous models was to ditch the speakers to make room for eight performance pads and a full-length tempo adjustment fader. Although not necessarily for open-format or scratch DJs, the central mixer section has adopted a battle-style layout.
