Oh God, too funny, I'm still laughing by A off over this and thinking about all the dogs in the past, prancing around, smelling like Arpege. Imagine waking up in the middle of the night, grab a silk robe and walk into a old, beautiful living room with tall windows framed by heavy blue velvet curtains. A fragrance of superb elegance, timeless, which in some respects duels at the foil with the contemporary Chanel n 5 of 1921, the differences are quite remarkable for the most demanding olfactory, only the aldehydes and the white floral scents vaguely unite them. This is hardcore, the longevity is definitely a 5, but the combination of incompatible scents here is just "hideous".

I don't get any coriander or rose, or any powdery qualities, but it has a good sillage, and lasts for 8h+. My first impression was that it was going to be more appropriate for cold weather when wood and spicy notes feel more in tune with the bare trees and damp soil. There's a moment of "bitter herbal" and then it seems to bloom in "white florals" that remind me of dusting powder. It has that "oily chypre" quality that smells so fresh when combined with that heavy dose of aldehydes.

But it's not a floral explosion as sandalwood, vanilla and benzoin add interest and a solid backbone. Arpege on healthy, blood-nourished, unbathed skin, becomes an alluring creamy floral perfume, good for sport and sex. The lily of the valley, jasmine and rose predominate, well balanced with the geranium and coriander. On a whim I bought some and fell in love with the black bottle, the classic wearability that wasn't over sexy but could be worn anywhere. If I'm anxious it brings me in an enchanted wood and the wind lulls me with whiffs of vanilla and benzoin.
