After joining this forum in 2007 and lurking here under the radar for a couple years prior I decided to join up and contribute what I could but learn a lot more from the members here of this forum. There is a landfill site sized hole full of Beefheart compilations but this is one of the few that is really lovingly put together and informative.

I must say that I like to listen to these compositions bare-boned, without Beefheart’s voice-beef, so to speak. Captain Beefheart likened making music to going to the bathroom – it’s not something he wants to look back on. The recording quality is rawer (was recorded in the band's house as opposed to the professional studio that most of the album tracks were recorded in) and the performances are looser- there are also subtle differences that TMR obsessives like myself will notice (like a different bassline in the first part of "Pachuco Cadaver").

CB's varied assortment of musical sketches, demos, backing tracks, rehearsals, chatter, outtakes, and live/radio appearances have a singular cohesive model: primitive noise. The sound quality is mostly murky (but the swampy approach lets you accept that), and the band’s playing is basic but they rock hard and fierce. Because he was walking on a college campus during the moment to which I was referring, I somehow mistakenly twisted the words, making it appear that Gary was a few years older and also that he was going to Syracuse University. Captain Beefheart is the most important musician to rise in the Sixties, far more significant and far-reaching than the Beatles| as important for all music as Ornette Coleman was for jazz, as Leadbelly was for the blues.

I can't separate it easily from The Spotlight Kid in my memory because I have both albums on one twofer CD. We will pay the proceeds of any such sale to you, but will deduct any storage charges or other sums that we have incurred in the storage and sale of the Lot.

The highlight for me is the Captain's rendering of "Orange Claw Hammer", accompanied by Frank Zappa on acoustic guitar.

Waiver of a breach of any term of these Terms of Sale will not operate as a waiver of breach of any other term or any subsequent breach of that term. Disc 3 - House rehearsals for 'trout mask replica' as the band suddenly make some of the most out there music ever put to tape. It also becomes apparent and justifiable when CB verbally scolds an audience member, disc 5 track 22, for disrupting his mellotron performance. A special vinyl edition was also released on Table Of The Elements containing 6 LPs, a a poster and a 24 page libretto. There is no way they could have split the „good stuff“ from the scraps, you have to take in the whole sludged affair or just avoid it.All 3 of these vinyl volumes were eventually rolled out on the combined labels of 'Xeric' and 'Table Of The Elements'. The Magic Band only produced 12 albums in its 15 year existence, and now suddenly we have an extra five CDs of hidden treats, complete with unseen photographs, a selection of live videos on an enhanced CD, and extensive revealing notes in a 112 page book.
