Over the course of the night James matter of factly replays significant events in his life as his message reaches his nearest and dearest. It shows that while technology can often isolate people and stop a real conversation from taking place, it can also be a fast, safe way to keep in touch.

The big plus for this book is that, at least in my experience, it will make you rethink how you interact with others and you may learn to be a slightly kinder person.

No one knows how to react, and they realise how life moves on and that we can’t always be there for the people we love. Imagine what your first thought would be when your phone lights up with a new message, and you read the words that someone is saying goodbye to you.I loved reading about the characters – they felt convincing and interesting, and it really made me think about the power each of us has to reach out to people and make such a difference in another person’s life. Obviously, writing a book where the main character spends the whole time wanting to die is incredibly… brave? I was also surprised to see (in my Kindle version) the publisher had not included links to suicide support lines. I really appreciated how we hopped around the world, it gave us an insight into all these different characters and really allowed us to explore their relationship with James.
