About this deal

This box set is small enough to drop into a shoulder bag or backpack without taking up too much space, and it is not overly heavy. The Cosmic Slumber Tarot arrives in a sturdy, cardboard, magnetic-close case, two-piece case which unlike past Liminal 11 products opens and closes at the base of the deck, thus reducing the chance of the inner packaging/ cardboard holder accidentally falling or coming loose from the packaging. While the figures in the deck are predominantly white, there is some amount of racial diversity, as with the Empress and the Ten of Wands. Every card is hand painted and the illustrations are my own creation, though they were made with the indisputable help of my assistant, Beth Fisher.

I would have loved to have seen a little more in the guidebook about the art on specific cards and Tillie’s interpretation of some of the Artwork. If you are familiar with the Rider Waite Smith classic tarot then you will have no problems in using this deck as it imagery and symbolism is quite familiar. We also use them to help detect unauthorized access or activity that violate our terms of service, as well as to analyze site traffic and performance for our own site improvement efforts. Walden’s style in the guidebook veers away from divinations in favor of these types of meditations and affirmations, and I am here for it.

Walden describes her Cosmic Slumber Tarot as being about “connecting what doesn’t fit together” and the feeling of “sensing you are in another reality, but accepting it. When decks come with free or bonus spread cloths, for cost reasons, usually it’s not of the highest quality. I feel they are a good size and don't feel clunky to shuffle at all, but then again I have bigger hands than most so YMMV.On any other day, I would say that the artwork doesn’t appeal to me, but when I looked at the interesting interpretation of the Lovers and the Devil on each side of the box, both radiating in their groovy, mid-Seventies rock-poster color palette, I couldn’t wait to get this deck.

Not that quality is exclusive to the limited edition- you can still get the deck in its awesome double-sleeved hard-cover box and the tarot bag when you purchase directly from Liminal 11. Maybe you can simply include the two cards for an 80-card deck to read with, and when Morning or Night shows up in your reading, look to these card meanings as provided for your interpretation of the spread. The deck also comes with a triptych standing frame where you can slide in any three tarot cards to set out on your tabletop. But even the readings I don’t totally understand still feel very meaningful and powerful, in the way that a very vivid dream often feels meaningful and powerful. In this deck I can see the meanings in these cards but if I was a total novice I maybe wouldn’t know visually. Artist Tillie Walden makes the most of her comic illustrator’s skills with this bright, colourful deck.
