Because there was a point in this book where I wondered whether this couple could ever made it in the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a heroine who has a messy past and a hero who accepts her completely. Each one of her books deals with issues that society often ignores: abuse, self harm, body dysmorphia, sexuality, ECT.
Dare You To Hate Me is a Beautiful Childhood Friends to Lovers, Sports Romance about Friendship, Loyalty and facing one's past. I suffered through this whole book even though it was boring as hell, thinking there an interesting plot twist somewhere in the middle or end but no. Even as a young chid he always tried to protect Ivy and made sure she had somewhere to go when things were tough at home. I loved the character growth in Ivy, and with the epilogue it was not only ending on a happy note, but it showed Ivy being in a better place.
Aiden and Ivy's relationship from being a friend to a couple was smoothly transitioned and well-developed. It kinda felt like it was written by a 40 year old man trying to understand a twenty something woman and her problems. Celeste, friends to lovers, sports, enemies to lovers, second chance, college, emotional, and a happily ever after. That friendship becomes a lifeline, and yrs later just when she thought she would never see him again he walks back into her life.We only got a few chapters into the true fragility of Ivy's mental state, and it just felt rushed towards the end as well, and then the ending itself was really abrupt. Ivy came off as someone who didn’t care much for anyone and focused on herself such as grades/ work and getting by in life.
