One challenge that we ran into during the Timed Phase was the tendency to have someone try to manage everyone’s turn. Indiana Jones: Sands of Adventure was a blast to play, and we had fun, but the game is pretty much the same game every time with the same three villains and the same game arc. If you defeat the Villain before the sand timer runs out, awesome – they get sent away and the game is reset in readiness for the next one including swapping in a new action tile (although note that any upgrade cards played to the action deck are retained in a light but very effective nod to deck building!

And while I didn’t really comb that section to see how the keywords were laid out, we didn’t seem to have any clues that were too close to the solutions. Regardless of either you want to try to build up a hand of cards that can then prepare you for the more frantic times phase. Meanwhile for one of the pathways it was unclear if the template had to be used the whole time or if it was only used to solve a secondary objective. I like what it is trying to do and what it appears to be, I’m just not too sure how many times I’ll pick it out for playing over other games that Funko currently offer in their catalogue. Whatever the odds, Indy and the gang always find a way to win the day — usually through teamwork and improvisation. And choosing which action tile to activate becomes a trade off between what you really need now and avoiding the Villain who could join you and trigger his nastiness if the threat dice reveal an “X”!

Overall, the pathways are fun and it’s harder than it seems to visually draw the path while looking at the map. There’s a moment in every Indiana Jones movie where a fight breaks out and things rapidly spiral out of control. There are two parts to the game: the gather phase (which is not real-time) and the fight phase (which is real-time! Face booby traps, menacing villains, and supernatural threats in this puzzle-filled, action-packed “escape room” game.Play these Character Cards in sets and runs to score points, while Power Cards add fun new twists to the classic card gameplay. I guess it would have been nice to have a round reminder on the back of the rulebook to keep things right and avoid having to revisit the entire rulebook. Stars – This puzzle and pathways game allows you to relive some of the great moments from the first three Indiana Jones films.
