As a bra-burning feminist I have almost given up on following Social Media James in the past but, love him or loathe him, this is insightful and genuine no-BS advice! So thus far, this book is exactly the same as the majority of other diet books over the last 30 years. It takes all the current science around diet, health and wellness - which lets face it, can be so confusing and complicated - and distils it in to something easy to digest and try.Started good and I thought it was interesting but the middle part of this book should of been kept for his memoirs. Don’t set goals on a scale but instead in progression on amounts you can lift or distance you can run over time. The best thing I’ve learned from James is the balance between training and life so I can enjoy both while chasing my goals.

James Smith has already changed thousands of lives with his international phenomenon Not A Diet Book. Outlining a way of life that rather than a quick fix approach explaining a little of the science but not in depth as she hasn’t the background for that.

If I could give you one bit of advice right now, it would be to take all the energy you’re putting into fad diets and put it into becoming the most genuinely healthy version of you.

The subject matter and the person reading work hand in hand to keep my focus peaked though so I'm fully engaged, but with this book, my focus drifted back and forth and I had to rewind to see what I missed, to which I say wasn't much. I follow Davina on Instagram and love her holistic approach to health, her strength to overcome addiction and her open honesty. Though there's lots of supplements, she has a 2 week reset - which I did and it did help me eat more whole unprocessed foods but I didn't carry on with not eating till late and the mct coffees. Not a Diet Book mercilessly takes down every fad diet, workout and health drink you have been sold and instead explains [James’] mission to make understanding weight-loss as two words – calorie deficit.
