About this deal

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. With 'Mezzanine', however, the party had ended; revisiting the murky soundscapes so favoured by former partner and fellow Bristolian Tricky, the comeback single 'Rising Son' muttering edgily about "cheap beer filled with crocodile tears", over the deepest bass. We are available to book for live shows and events, as well as bespoke licensed music for videos, commercials, TV, film and more. To put it simply, it's brilliant, and arguably remains the Bristol-based outfit's finest work to date (though some would argue that the dark and paranoid Mezzanine is possibly better). Can’t make my mind up if CD sounds better than the vinyl so it must be close, sounds great on either.

Please note, The Vinyl Whistle accepts no responsibility for any package which is damaged, lost or stolen during transit. This third album signalled a change in sonic direction that played more explicitly on the darkness and tension that was always an undercurrent of their much loved debut Blue Lines and successor Protection. Review: Two decades have passed since Massive Attack signaled a new stage in their career with the dark, paranoid and claustrophobic brilliance of "Mezzanine", their third studio album.During the Gulf War in 1991, their releases were labeled as 'Massive' to ensure continued airplay amidst pressure from the British Government. After numerous bootlegs over the years, Virgin have done the right thing and presented this official reissue of Mezzanine to appease fans of Massive Attack and it's clear the LP has lost none of it's bewitching power. Of course, we all know the highlights by heart - the stoned bounce of "Karmacoma", evocative downtempo bliss of Tracey Thorn hook-up "Protection", string-drenched lusciousness of "Sly", and the gentle dub-house soul of the Horace Andy-voiced "Spying Glass", for example - but even the forgotten album cuts (see "Weather Storm" and "Better Things") have aged remarkably well. After an incredibly long wait, with several push-backs to the 2018 release date (and complete cancellation of the 3-LP special edition due to artwork materials), it was with some relief that this 2CD set arrived yesterday! Sound-wise the remaster is subtle but allows some elements to show through with extra clarity - thankfully no brick-walling (which would have made this material totally unplayable!

Is there anyone else here that would love it if they released some sort of proper 24bit-96kHz+ digital format? I actually missed out on the earlier releases, because I was too deep into hip-hop in the early nineties and I did not consider massive attack's sound to be hip-hop enough! While the resultant set, released in 1994, does quite hit the same dizzying heights, it remains a thoroughly great album. If you like Mezzanine, take the plunge and splurge on it ;) I was unsure at first and bounced around the idea for over a week. ok, first off - I didn't use the following option, but it's AWESOME: the vendor had the consideration to provide a download to keep you patient while you wait for your shipment to arrive.

To be sure, this album is very challenging material for the vinyl format; plenty of deep bass and also very crystalline highs, particularly on Elizabeth Frazer on "teardrop", but also on all the female vocalists featured on this album. I don't understand how that song didn't make it on the album, or just get released as some sort of B-side or something. years on, the set still sounds sublime: a radical translation that frequently bares only a passing resemblance to the Bristol band's original. All eight of the Mad Professor remixes included on the anniversary reissue are previously unreleased and include his dub mixes of two tracks not originally featured on Mezzanine but from the same period – Metal Banshee – a dub version of ‘Superpredators’ which was a cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ ‘Metal Postcard’ – and ‘Wire’, a track they recorded for the soundtrack of the film Welcome to Sarajevo. To celebrate the album’s twentieth anniversary, Mezzanine has been remastered by Tim Young at Metropolis who has worked with the band for over twenty years.hell even the 20bit HDCD, with peak extension, might fair better than the vinyl pressings, at least in some regard, seeing how this album seems to be a "challenge" for the vinyl format, as one commenter noted.

Great to have this in my paws at long last, even if the lack of deluxe feel/artwork after such a long wait means I'm dropping 1 star! By the release of 1998's Mezzanine , critics were suddenly of the understanding that Massive Attack were one of the most important bands in the world. de states this a 2017 release, but PLEASE never trust their info, you might receive a totally different album by a different band through all their dead links and false information. Massive attack are often referred to as ths godfathers of the trip hop/Bristol scene and for me, I feel that "Mezzanine" was the release that sealed the deal. This album is the band's most commercially successful to date it went to the number one spot in the UK, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand album charts.

Bristol's original trip-hop pioneers had, on previous albums Blue Lines and Protection , fused turntable wizardry to the warmest of soul. Songs from "Mezzanine" have also been used on numerous occasions to soundtrack adverts, TV shows, films, etc, past and present. I consider myself lucky as coloured plastic discs, particularly dark colours, can be troublesome (and the first reviewer here has experienced unacceptable playback issues, possibly as a result).
