Begone! I will not hear you. There can be no community between you and me; we are enemies. Begone, or let us try our strength in a fight, in which one must fall." Because pretending is all I can do to get through today without remembering the past or the girl who confided in a boy before he left her to her demons four years ago. I try not to focus on the low, husky tone of his voice, which causes bumps to rise over my arms. He’s twenty-one, but he doesn’t sound it. Before I settled for a half-renovated basement, I couch surfed with strangers. Most of them were men older than my twenty years with every intention of making me pay them in some way, and usually not with money.

From the fan-favorite author of Underneath the Sycamore Tree comes the first in a raw, real romance series following the lives of the Lindon U football players and the complicated girls who change their lives forever. I liked that the main characters kept talking about "what ifs." "What if she didn't leave." "What if he didn't let her go." "What would have happened if they made different choices." These things heightened the intensity of the story. I connect more with them through their pain and mistakes. It made me understand deeper and reflect why they did what they did. I may not agree with some of their justifications, especially with the heroine, but I grasped the true reasons behind their actions. Self-harm is a very serious matter, but there's no doubt that B. Celeste handled and delivered a story out of it very well. Skylar,” he cuts me off, seriousness washing over his usually playful features. “I’m going to tell you this once, so listen real good. There’s a big difference between agreeing to help somebody when they ask because you care about them, and having people assume you’ll help because they think you owe them something. You never have to worry about me feeling used when it comes to anything we do together. I’ll bury my face between those pretty thighs of yours any day of the week. I’ll bury plenty of other things there too if that’s what you want.”As for the romance, I wish Ivy showed her love as freely as Aiden did, but I understood why she couldn't all the time. Towards the end of the book, I truly did appreciate her even though I never really fell in love with her. All in all this was still a great read from an incredibly talented author and I can't wait to see what she does next!! I was pretty excited to start this. It was a childhood best friends to lovers (which I love!) but also with the separation, the heroine and hero would have to learn to be friends again, so I was really interested in this. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. This was just boring. It felt so repetitive. And I did not have any interest in the two main characters or the romance between them. Their story wasn't roses and puffy clouds... Their journey was paved with thorns and ugly storms, but they proved to us that together, they could conquer everything and find the road to happiness!!! The caveman acts, unfortunately, didn't fly with me. Especially against this poor girl. Yes I know she takes the stupidest risk sometimes in attempt of her self-preservation, but dammit the caveman things just worsened it for me.

MINOR SPOILERS : I PROBABLY ACCIDENTALLY SAID SOME REALLY MINOR SPOILERS BUT IT SHOULD BE FINE.. I THINK !! They form an amazing friendship, which I absolutely adored. He helped Sky with building her confidence and standing up for herself. I loved how their relationship progressed. I read this one in a couple of hours, late at night. I remember thinking that I want to finish it, so I don’t have to do it tomorrow. That probably tells you all you need to know?! I expected this reception," said the dæmon. "All men hate the wretched; how, then, must I be hated, who am miserable beyond all living things! Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature, to whom thou art bound by ties only dissoluble by the annihilation of one of us. You purpose to kill me. How dare you sport thus with life? Do your duty towards me, and I will do mine towards you and the rest of mankind. If you will comply with my conditions, I will leave them and you at peace; but if you refuse, I will glut the maw of death, until it be satiated with the blood of your remaining friends." Why do you call to my remembrance," I rejoined, "circumstances of which I shudder to reflect, that I have been the miserable origin and author? Cursed be the day, abhorred devil, in which you first saw light! Cursed (although I curse myself) be the hands that formed you! You have made me wretched beyond expression. You have left me no power to consider whether I am just to you or not. Begone! Relieve me from the sight of your detested form."

About ‘Dare You to Trust Me’ by B. Celeste

The growth these two had was so freaking good. I love when that happens to the characters, the character growth is what makes the book so much better. How can I move thee? Will no entreaties cause thee to turn a favourable eye upon thy creature, who implores thy goodness and compassion? Believe me, Frankenstein, I was benevolent; my soul glowed with love and humanity; but am I not alone, miserably alone? You, my creator, abhor me; what hope can I gather from your fellow creatures, who owe me nothing? They spurn and hate me. The desert mountains and dreary glaciers are my refuge. I have wandered here many days; the caves of ice, which I only do not fear, are a dwelling to me, and the only one which man does not grudge. These bleak skies I hail, for they are kinder to me than your fellow beings. If the multitude of mankind knew of my existence, they would do as you do, and arm themselves for my destruction. Shall I not then hate them who abhor me? I will keep no terms with my enemies. I am miserable, and they shall share my wretchedness. Yet it is in your power to recompense me, and deliver them from an evil which it only remains for you to make so great, that not only you and your family, but thousands of others, shall be swallowed up in the whirlwinds of its rage. Let your compassion be moved, and do not disdain me. Listen to my tale; when you have heard that, abandon or commiserate me, as you shall judge that I deserve. But hear me. The guilty are allowed, by human laws, bloody as they are, to speak in their own defence before they are condemned. Listen to me, Frankenstein. You accuse me of murder, and yet you would, with a satisfied conscience, destroy your own creature. Oh, praise the eternal justice of man! Yet I ask you not to spare me; listen to me, and then, if you can, and if you will, destroy the work of your hands." I get what the book is trying to do. And this is one of those situations where it's not the book, it's me. Because I, for the life of me, could only wonder why. Olive was the best part of the book too. When I read the author's note I fell even more in love with her and the book. Aiden and Ivy's relationship from being a friend to a couple was smoothly transitioned and well-developed. I liked that they had history as friends and I liked how it helped intensified the tension between them. I liked the gradual build up of their relationship as a couple. It was the simple things like; sharing their insecurities and secrets first before sharing themselves. Not the usual storyline where sex first then talk.

Now for the male main character, Aiden, he’s a star football player and really is the main driver of this being a sports romance rather than a contemporary romance or new adult. Danny is attracted to the shy, mysterious girl who wants nothing with him and despite the rumors about her, he befriends her. With rumors of him being drafted to the NFL coming to fruition, I know it’s only a matter of time before we have to say goodbye again.⁣ Four years has molded who I am, what I believe in, and how I view the world. So why hasn't it changed how I feel about the boy who used to be my best friend?" I freaking love this author!!! Her quirky sense of humour and the way she spins her tales is just so addictive to me! Aiden and Ivy's story was just like that too. You could feel the emotions and everything these two felt.

I’ve seen some of the players use the attention to their advantage, making me scoff every single time they convince some poor victim to help them with homework or papers or buy them something here at Bea’s. I fell immediately in love with both of our main characters. Ivy is so sassy, she has a take no shit attitude, she does what she needs to do to get by in this book and is never once ashamed of being herself. Skylar was a shy person when she entered the freshman year of college. And it didn't start out well for her. She struggled to make friends and one traumatic experience led her to not trust anyone. Then comes Danny, my love, he tries to help her and helps her learn how to trust others. According to some of the locals who come in for coffee, the university has broken the records for most wins at home and away because of the team they’ve had the last two years. This is…it’s a lifetime of battles ahead of me, and I don’t want to make anyone suffer by watching me figure out if I want to live or die when it all becomes too much."
