I am a cat owner and my cats seem to have a passion for soiling my carpets with vomit mainly but also occasionally feces and urine. I have been a SpotBot Pet owner for many years and I have always liked it because it's a "set it and forget it" thing. It usually didn't get the stain all the way out but it did as well as I would do if I was scrubbing the carpet by hand with the benefit that I didn't have to apply so much elbow grease. Heavy-duty suction power works extra hard to extract dirt and odours from your carpet and upholstery A few weeks ago my cat vomited and I needed to apply the SpotBot 3 times to cover the stain. I realized I had taken about half an hour to clean up the mess, and it didn't do that great a job. And the spotbot leaves very characteristic circular swirls in the carpet that are not very attractive. I realized that if I had an upright carpet cleaning machine, it would probably have taken less time and definitely would have done a better job. So after a lot of research I bought the Bissell Big Green. This carpet cleaning machine seems like a commercial grade machine, in the same class as the Rug Doctor machines you can rent from the grocery store. However, it cleans better than the Rug Doctor, it vacuums better than the Rug Doctor (leaving less water on the carpet), is mostly easier to use than the Rug Doctor, with one exception -- the Big Green works more like a vacuum cleaner in that you push it out in front of you with the handle, but this means you need more room behind it because the effective length of the machine is longer. There's no way they could make it shorter and still make it as easy to use, though. We have 3 large canine kids all who reside in the house, where they belong. Of course, most of the carpeting in our home is an off white berber style carpet. We have tried everything over the years from professional carpet cleanings to various rental carpet cleaners and we have owned a number of machines ourselves. Recently, our neighbors allowed us to borrow their new Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 to clean our carpets. It worked well and I decided it was time to buy our own machine (again). Now, I did follow the recommendation of at least one reviewer in this review group that doubled up on the solution, and it worked. I'm not recommending that for you. Just telling you my experience and what worked for me. All in all it's about the easiest to use, easiest to replace belts and refill, just an all around good machine. We also like having a clean floor and clean house. The floor is the biggest battle in our household.
