About this deal

Kate’s family relies on her so much, it is confronting to witness the family fall apart in the aftermath of death. Tully tries to be there for Marah who is sullen, withdrawn and emotionally scarred. She means so well but fails in some respects, Marah stops connecting with her father and brothers in her heartache, and Johnny the grieving widow judges Tully harshly. How does this ending tie things up for the two books as a whole? Is there another ending you would have liked to see? Even when she knows he isn’t good for her, Marah is drawn to the young man Paxton because of how well he can relate to her. She sees him almost as a kindred spirit.

So the river flood is happening, but as in real life so are a million other things too. Our main character, a child named Lucy secretly wants to be a poet, lives in a family of singers and cannot carry a tune. Her sister is an amazing artist but no one quite knows yet, and it turns out Lucy is the only one who knows her 2 year old brother Teddy can sing like an angel. He doesn't use words, but every night he sings just to his big sister. The adults have their problems too, but they are all through the lens of a child so it is felt, but not explained. The mother I related to more than I wanted to. Her youngest hasn't bonded with her as well, and she feels guilt over it. She also wants to be or do something more with her life but can't quite put her finger on it. I started out really liking this book. I especially liked all the descriptions the author used to put me in the place where the character was. Descriptions aren't usually a big selling point with me, so I know these ones were top shelf if I was noticing and loving them. Four men who meet as college roommates move to New York and spend the next three decades gaining renown in their professions—as an architect, painter, actor and lawyer—and struggling with demons in their intertwined personal lives. She felt a little woozy. It was nice, like being wrapped in a warm-from-the-dryer blanket. But when she came to, and saw where she was, it wasn't so nice. I enjoyed this story more than I thought I would. Reading a male author writing from the POV of a female protagonist was something I had to experience.

For this reason alone, fans of the show will want to tune in to see how this fallout will shake itself out. But unlike much the first season, the reason Tully and Kate are feuding differs from the Firefly Lane book series by Kristin Hannah. Despite not following the books to an exact tee, the books will still help provide a bit more context. In this book, we see Kate's family disintegrating. In Firefly Lane, Kate lost her battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer and passed away. We see Kate's daughter, Maura really develop in this book. She transforms into a combative, rebellious teenager. She runs away from her family, dyes her hair pink, and pierces her eyebrow with a safety pin. We also see Maura turn to darker, more dangerous behaviors such as drugs and self-harm. What Maura doesn't realize is that she is just trying to run away from herself, from the pain of losing her mother. We also see the dissolution of the friendship between Kate's husband and Tully.

Need Help?

She frowned and leaned forward, pushing the mail aside to reveal a Star magazine that lay beneath the pile. There was a small photograph of her face in the upper right corner. Not a good picture, either. Not one to be proud of. Beneath it was written a single, terrible word. There is enough detail given of what’s happened in the past that you could easily just read Fly Away on its own. Because I didn't care for this story I awarded it 2** I am so sorry Ms. Hannah I didn't enjoy this book, but that doesn't mean I will stop reading your books, I am looking forward to reading the next book you release. I realize you can't please me every time, however, I will keep reading if you keep writing. Ha sido uno de esos libros que ha llegado en el momento justo, que lo necesitaba, una historia que engancha, de las que aunque duela quieres seguir descubriendo. Once, a long time a go, I walked down a night-darkened road called Firefly Lane, all alone, on the worst night of my life, and I found a kindred spirit. That was our beginning. More than thirty years ago. TullyandKate. You and me against the world. Best friends forever. But stories end, don’t they? You lose the people you love and you have to find a way to go on. . . .

When she opened her eyes again, she stared, bleary-eyed, at the pile of mail on her coffee table. Junk mail, mostly; catalogs and magazines she didn't bother to read anymore. She started to look away, but a picture snagged her attention. What can I get for you?" asked a thin, artsy-looking man with hair the color of a tangerine and more hardware on his face than Sears carried in the nuts-and-bolts aisle. There were times when it seemed like pure torture and anguish of mind to continue reading. It was very depressing, very few high spots throughout the whole book...of course until the end where everything sweetly came together. In the end, “Fly Away” concludes with Tully and Kate’s family finally coming to terms with Kate’s death and finding a way to move forward. Tully decides to leave her job as a talk show host and takes a break to focus on herself and her relationships. She reconnects with Kate’s husband, Johnny, and they start to develop feelings for each other. Overall, “Fly Away” is a beautifully written and emotionally charged novel that explores the themes of love, loss, and forgiveness with great depth and sensitivity. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is compelling, making it a highly recommended read for fans of contemporary fiction. Fly Away Book SpoilerFirst I want to thank Goodreads for selecting me as a winner of an advance reader's copy of Fly Away. Winning and getting to read a Kristin Hannah book before it has been released really made my year! Just Fly Away is about a young teen girl names Lucy who finds out that her father has an eight year old son with another woman that both her father and her mother kept a secret. At first it angers Lucy that her father had an affair, had a son and kept it a secret from her, but then it angers her more that her mother knew about it and still stayed with her father.
