Make the pinhole in the bottom end of the container. You can either poke a hole directly through the bottom of your container using a pin, or you can cut a larger hole about 1/2-inch by 1/2-inch out of the bottom of your container and poke a pin through a separate piece of paper or thin metal. The second method is usually preferred as it allows you to make a more perfect circle and start over if you mess up the first time.

Recommendations

OSD– If you have an OSD you will have connectors for video in, video out and then grounds for both signals. It is important that you use these grounds for both your camera and VTX if you want clean video. You will lose connection to the camera and see a bunch of error messages. Thats normal. Once you see a timeout message, unplug the power and network from the camera. The internal Arduino I2C pull-up resistors to 5 volts must be disabled and replaced with external pull-up resistors to the 3v3 volt supply. A pinhole has the ability to function like a glass lens because it excludes all light rays which are not reflecting off the subject that the camera is pointed at. When light hits an object, it is scattered in all directions; this is why the object is visible from any angle. If all this light was entering a camera and hitting the film, no image would be produced. The light needed for a photo has to be aligned to make a focused image. The pinhole excludes light rays from all irrelevant angles and only allows through rays which are almost perfectly aligned from the subject through the pinhole to the film. See the image above. The red lines are light rays. Note that they cross at the pinhole and produce an inverted image.

Receiver– You’ll have one signal in wire to connect to either an UART RX port or a dedicated SBUS port etc. You may also have a telemetry wire which will connect to a different UART TX! Lining up and framing each shot involves looking through the top down viewfinder, with a pop up magnifier provided to aid the process. We found this works best in bright sunlight – anything less and we found the image through the viewfinder to be fuzzy and indistinct, like we were viewing it through frosted glass. Focal distance is given on the lens ring itself to aid focusing. Vbat– If your flight controller runs off of 5V it will still need to read the main battery voltage if you want to make use of features such as the OSD or beeper. You will often have a positive and negative wire to do this connecting to the Vbat and ground pads. Fit the camera on its metal plate into the housing, as close to the front glass as you can get it without actually touching. A few millimetres away should be good.
