About this deal

Sebastian was absolutely delicious and swoon worthy in every way. My God he was perfect. He was a sexy, charming, dirty talking beast. OMG the things he would say... Damn but he could melt the panties off a nun! Sebastian wasn't just a sexy rake there was so much depth to him. I loved how protective, possessive, and caring he was with Evie. He tried to act like he was a villain that didn't care for nothing but his actions always showed what a great guy he was. Evie was a perfect match for Sebastian. I loved the growth she goes through in this book. A super shy, stuttering wallflower at the start Evie really comes into her own. Evie discovering her self worth and being brave enough to love Sebastian was a wonderful thing to read. When this is unsuccessful, it seems that all he can do is wait the allotted period before he can embrace his ravenous inhibitions or maybe, just maybe, see what this love business is all about. Chemistry is one thing the pairing of Sebastian and Evie has plenty of. Sebastian isn’t quite the devil of the title, but he has a languid and slightly dangerous demeanor that makes him magnetic to Evie. Intellectually I know that a stuttering virgin like Evie should not attract a rake like Sebastian, but when I read their scenes together, I can feel the attraction between them, almost as if I were in the same room with a couple who can’t look away from one another, and that makes all the difference. The Hathaways are an entertaining family, each sister having a distinct personality that I hope to see more of. There were moments that their sisterly interactions reminded me of one of my favorite books, Little Women. You can guess who Win reminded me a little of.

As a couple, they were utterly delightful in their growth-while he teaches her to care less (and damn, I love that about him) she teaches him to care more. It works out without being heavy-handed. I love a marriage of convenience...And what works in this one is their outright honesty. Mine Till Midnight is the beginning of the Hathaways Sisters series, and while it doesn't explicitly say so, you need to read The Wallflowers series beforehand because SO MANY characters overlap and I feel you would be confused if you didn't. Though he was tempted to demand her purpose in visiting him, Sebastian feared that might set off a round of prolonged stammering that would torment them both. He waited with forced patience, while Evangeline appeared to consider what she was about to say. As the silence drew out, Sebastian watched her in the gamboling firelight, and realized with some surprise that she was attractive. He had never really looked at her directly, had only received the impression of a frowsy red-haired girl with bad posture. But she was lovely.

Evie had my absolutely attention in the first book "Secrets of a Summer Night" as i knew that she would be Sebastians heroine. The scene where she talks to a squirrel without stammering had all wallflowers staring at her with mouths open, and i was really fascinated by her glowingly shy nature that hided a very (as i knew) a passionate woman. To go to the devil himself in the middle of night to propose was very and...VERY brave of her.How i just admired her courage, how she wasn`t afraid of the inhumanly beautiful man with the look of a fallen angel..while he had the soul of a sinful devil. As Evie fell in love with imperfect hero..i fell in love with him too..OH Sebastian!

You have a point. There's nothing so tiresome as being reasonable. I myself avoid it whenever possible. Still, you can't brawl when there are ladies present. It will give them ideas."

Evangeline did not rise to his baiting, only gave him a steady stare that was evidence of an innate toughness Sebastian had never encountered in a woman before. “I’m offering to marry you,” she said. “I want your protection. My father is too ill and weak to help me, and I will not be a burden to my friends. I believe they would offer to harbor me, but even then I would always have to be on guard, fearing that my relations would manage to steal me away and force me to do their will. An unmarried woman has little recourse, socially or legally. It isn’t f-fair…but I can’t afford to go tilting at windmills. I need a h-husband. You need a rich wife. And we are both equally desperate, which leads me to believe that you will agree to my pr-proposition. If so, then I should like to leave for Gretna Green tonight. Now. I’m certain that my relations are already looking for me.”

I did it. And I'm not sorry. I think I needed a little something to prove there's a reason to read this author after the disappointing Ravenel series thus far. Not sure this is gonna help when it comes to Phoebe and West though. Ah, Evie,” she heard him say softly, “I must have a heart, after all…because right now it aches like the devil.” I agree that Sebastian wasn’t the terrible villain in the earlier books that he was made out to be, but I think that from the point of view of Lillian and Marcus, he tried to separate them forever and threatened to rape Lillian after kidnapping her and tying her up. I think that in real life, a couple would be much slower to forgive someone who did such things to them, if they forgave at all. In my opinion, they’d be too angry to consider his motives and the fact that his actions were a result of self-absorption rather than malice would not necessarily mitigate that kind of hurt and anger. Sebastian comprehended that she was not dull-witted by any means, though the stammer would cause many to assume otherwise. She was accustomed to being underestimated, ignored, overlooked…and he sensed that she would turn it to her advantage whenever possible. That interested him. What Devil in Winter proved to me is that as tired of rake-and-virgin pairings as I sometimes feel I am, an author with a talent for creating chemistry between her main characters can still find gold in that much-mined vein. Sooooo good! I loved St. Vincent in the last book and in this one he actually gets more swoon-worthy. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth,” Sebastian said casually, “but how close is your father to dying? Some people linger for years on their deathbeds. Very bad form, I’ve always thought, to keep people waiting.” My feelings about St. Vincent are a little more complicated. I don't really like that he's hanging out in alpha limbo. He's a bit too...courtly to be straight up gamma/alpha, but he's way too rapey and chauvinistic for me to accept him as a "nice" hero. His constant bragging about his prowess definitely garnered an eye-roll or two from me. That said, he had some great lines. Sexy lines. He's the perfect example of a character who you might find sexually attractive but would make a sh*tty boyfriend.
