About this deal

Nuria speaks with Ren and asks her to take away a memory for her. Nuria is super nice, it seems. Ren takes away the memory of her and Castian’s break up. Also, might I add that my name is also Renata as the main character and my friends call me Ren and sometimes Nati so I was so happy? Like you don’t read about Renatas? And!! I felt really connected with the character, like I felt I was described in this book and the thoughts and actions of the main character somehow were so similar to what I’d do.

The letter is written, mainly in the authentic language of an East End gal, but with snippets of people from other worlds. The grammar and punctuation is appalling, but it is totally in context. She relates, to Osama, all of the events and all of her feelings from immediately before the atrocity to many months afterwards.

Renata has the power to steal memories from people and once they're stolen they can never be returned. Her power is pretty cool, but Ren herself........she was am 'okay' MC, though she annoyed me sometimes. I love Leo though. It seems like all the Leos I've read about are always charming and the best. I found Lady Nuria more entertaining then the MC herself.🤦‍♀️ Rabbi Julia Neuberger says: 'There is a sort of industry going on around the Holocaust which grows on itself. Elie Wiesel does charge a fortune and do the wide, sad eyes thing. But because Finkelstein does it as a rant, the validity of those points get lost. I also want to touch on Castian’s character because he surprised me the most. The prologue sets him up as a formidable villain but most of what we know about him, once Renata is in the palace, comes from local rumours and the rebels’ impressions of him. It’s impressive how present he is in the story all while he physically remains in the shadows.

Renata was only a child when she was kidnapped by the crown. As a memory thief, the rarest and most feared of the magical Moria, she was used to carry out the King's Wrath, a siege that resulted in the deaths of thousands of her own people. Overall: I enjoyed world-building, well-crafted characterization and likable heroine. This is a great, promising, fresh start of the series. I think I cannot wait to read the second installment! When Dez, the commander of her unit, is taken captive by the notorious Sangrado Prince, Renata will do anything to save the boy whose love makes her place among the Whispers bearable. But a disastrous rescue attempt means Renata must return to the palace under cover and complete Dez's top secret mission. Can Renata convince her former captors that she remains loyal, even as she burns for vengeance against the brutal, enigmatic prince? Her life and the fate of the Moria depend on it. Zoraida Córdova (Labyrinth Lost) weaves a high-stakes tale of palace intrigue and deception in Incendiary, a YA fantasy set in a world inspired by Inquisition-era Spain.” – Shelf Awareness, STARRED REVIEW

Her life is complicated. She sees a well-to-do, but very confused and conflicted journalist who is smitten with her, then later a high-ranking cop with whom she works. She suffers an identity crisis, allowing herself to be re-shaped by others, trying on personae in attempting to figure out who she is after the trauma. Now Renata is one of the Whispers, rebel spies working against the crown and helping the remaining Moria escape the kingdom bent on their destruction. The Whispers may have rescued Renata from the palace years ago, but she cannot escape their mistrust and hatred — or the overpowering memories of the hundreds of souls she turned “hollow” during her time in the palace.

Thank you Fantastic Flying Fiction Book Club and NetGalley for a complimentary copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own. Special mention to the magic system, I know YA fantasy has some great works but this one was so well developed and the powers Renata has are so amazing, I don’t know I really loved everything about it.

My first Zoraida Córdova book, one I've been eagerly anticipating, and it did not disappoint for a second. Also, how on earth was this my first Zoraida Córdova book?! The woman is flawed. She's not some perfect grieving widow and mother. Everyone in the book is flawed - and therefore three-dimensional and real. My heart was bleeding not only for her but for all the messed-up, suffering characters in this book who are just trying to get through life day by day. This book hits you where it hurts. It grabs you and doesn't let go. Honestly, there’s nothing that I didn’t like about this story. It’s beautifully written, and each character has their own memorable personality. This isn’t a story about a stellar young woman who magically gets away with everything she does. Her actions tend to have consequences, and I’m excited to find out what her actions at the end of this book will lead to in the next one. 10/10. Add it to your TBR, because I’m telling you, you’re not going to want to miss it. Finkelstein's claim: If, as is agreed, there were only 100,000 Jewish survivors of the concentration camps at the end of the war, many of whom died shortly afterwards, there cannot be hundreds of thousands of survivors still living deserving to be compensated by the Swiss and the Germans. At the Sun Ball, Castian and Ren dance. And I start to ship it?? It doesn’t take much, let’s be honest. Mendez calls Castian away and the two are seen having a massive debate.

Nuria warns Ren not to allow the Whispers to assassinate the king… in a not so vague way. So, when the king is about to be killed by Margo, Ren saves him. Much to her own disgust. Gorgeous world building, searing suspense, and a huge cast of fascinating, complex characters . . . I loved every minute of it This prince whose friendship made the palace a little less lonely for a moria girl. the prince whom i’ve spent half my life hating.” In Incendiary, Zoraida Córdova weaves a compelling world filled with beautiful, brutal magic and characters that feel real enough to touch—weighed down by memory and fueled by love and vengeance. I cannot wait for the next volume!” ~Sara Holland, New York Times-bestselling author of Everless and EvermoreThis book takes reader on a wild journey of satire. The narrator is far from a perfect wife and mother. She is tidy, but gets nervous when her bomb-disposal husband is called out on a shout and she leaves her four year old son home alone whilst she goes out seeking comfort in the arms of other men. One of my favourite aspects of the book was the magic system. It was heavily based on the senses and the mind which is not something I see often (most magic systems I've seen are more physical or elemental). In the book, the kingdom of Puerto Leones conquered neighbouring Memoria and sought to wipe out its magically gifted people, the Moria. They had magical abilities of four types: Robári (can take people's memories), Persuári (can influence and bring people's emotions to life), Ventári (can tell if someone is lying) and Illusionári (capable of conjuring illusions). Moria with no magic were called Olvidados.
