About this deal

On the kitchen bench are three mobile phones, plugged into their chargers, next to a set of keys, and a wallet. ABOUT 'INTO THE DARK': THE PLACE: Seawings, a beautiful Art Deco home overlooking the sweep of the bay in Midtown-on-Sea. There are 2 main characters Piper and Julianne who are best friends. Piper is the one who goes missing . The story centres around both their families. Most of the characters are dark and evil.

Michael Rowland is not your typical teenager. Deaf from birth, he’s always looked out for his five-year-old brother, Joshua. When his stepfather comes after Joshua, Michael takes the child and runs. He’s determined to protect his brother at all costs, even if that means making himself vulnerable to a danger he can’t hear coming. And the danger intensifies when Michael witnesses a stranger kill his stepfather. Desperate and afraid, the boys have nowhere else to go but to Joshua’s soccer coach, journalist and ex-Army ranger Diesel Kennedy. When Diesel sees that Michael is injured, he takes them to see Dr. Dani Novak—not only because she’s fluent in American Sign Language, but because he’s drawn to her and everything she stands for. She never refuses Diesel’s requests—because she, too, feels their connection—but she resists him for reasons she doesn’t want to confess. THE AUTHOR: Fiona Cummins is an award-winning former Daily Mirror showbusiness journalist and a graduate of the Faber Academy Writing A Novel course. She lives in Essex with her family.Police are called. This is the first case for new member of Midtown-on-sea’s Major Crimes Unit, DC Saul Anguish. There is a dark side to Anguish which we learn more about as the book progresses. A message on Riva’s dressing table mirror, written in blood, gets everyone’s attention - “MAKE THEM STOP!” The team has a forensic linguist on call, blue haired Dr Clover March. Saul is unaccountably drawn to ‘Blue’ as he refers to her and there is certainly a strange, edgy chemistry between them. Blue has some interesting insights into the case as there will be more handwriting to be analysed. The biggest problem I have with this book is that every chapter is referring to a different time perspectives of different incidents, and it gets worse when they start introducing different characters. It’s so confusing to follow and understand. I just didn’t get the plot since it was too confusing to follow, which is an immediate turn off. I felt like the character development of DC Saul Anguish was poor. Nothing behind the character but surface level description, with a very dark side, unexplainable patterns of behavior which made me consider what the book even meant. I am not sure if there is a previous book to this which may actually explain abit about the character. I think the blurb doesn’t really match the story line, I think it was obvious, I wasn’t blown away and certainly not impressed. I’m just confused about it. The Neighbour (my first read by Fiona Cummins) was one of my top reads two years ago, so it thrills me to pieces that Into the Dark lived up to that one. I will definitely be bumping When I Was Ten and The Collector series up my tbr. We've been waiting a while for Dani and Diesel's story, and we finally have it, in Into the Dark - the 23rd in Karen Rose's romantic suspense series. The book begins with a highly emotional scene where Michael Rowland, a deaf child, is rescuing his 5-year-old brother, Joshua from being abused by his step-father – running away as fast as he could, while also witnessing a murder – which puts Michael’s life on the line. Michael’s coach, Diesel Kennedy, brings the injured Michael to Dr. Dani Novak, who will treat Michael. She is also deaf in one ear, and is able communicate with Michael using sign language.

Diesel has always been a bit of a mystery and his silent affection for Dr. Dani thoroughly enchanting. And to see her reciprocate was a beautiful thing. Together these two are downright delightful even with all their personal baggage. They are captivating and interesting characters without a doubt. This story held some heartbreaking triggers. When children are involved, crime always seems doubly horrifying. And Michael and his little brother were such marvels. One deaf and the other dependent on his older brother. Their circumstances shredded my heart and their journey to safety enthralling for every single minute. Investigating this case is Detective Constable Saul Anguish. At just twenty-four years of age, Saul is newly appointed to the Major Crime Unit in Essex. To further taint these already murky waters, Saul arrives at the MCU with a past which he would prefer remain hidden, because if discovered, could end what is looking like a promising career.

Dr. Dani Novak told Diesel Kennedy to find someone else 18 months ago. He didn't. She has some serious baggage and was afraid of the depth of the feelings that Diesel awoke in her. Diesel has some heavy baggage of his own, but one look at Dani and he was willing to conquer his past for a future with her - someday. He's a patient guy. It takes two children in need of both Dani and Diesel for these two to get over themselves and realize that they belong together. The story is about a family that disappears and there is evidence of foul play at their house. Have they been kidnapped or murdered. Appearances can be deceiving. And Fiona Cummins’ latest book, Into the Dark does it so well. Missing persons, cryptic messages, and a heaping helping of deception make up this delightfully twisted domestic noir from Fiona Cummins. So, what exactly is this literary subgenre called, Domestic Noir? In a nutshell, Domestic Noir takes place primarily in homes and workplaces, concerns itself largely (but not exclusively) with the female experience, is based around relationships and takes as its base a broadly feminist view that the domestic sphere is a challenging and sometimes dangerous prospect for its inhabitants. Of course the Dani/Diesel romance is only half of the story, and we have murder galore in this instalment. I didn't like the families, and it became apparent pretty early what had happened with the main mystery. The answer to it soured my whole experience of this story. I wasn't keen on the way it all developed because it felt shallow and convenient rather than revealing any kind of deeper themes. Also, it was very action-oriented, with things travelling along without much thought. Normally I love a fast-paced novel, but this just had too much going on to keep it this fast without losing some emotional connection.

Whereas When I Was Ten feels carefully planned out from the beginning, Into The Dark feels less tightly plotted, with occasional threads left loose and hanging. The b-plot of the new detective Saul Anguish and the forensic linguist "Blue" he connects with feels largely unrelated to the central mystery, and I was disappointed that there was no real connection by the end other than him working on the case. Now from the outside looking in it feels creepy. A new DS to the area, Saul Anguish is put on the case and soon finds that things do not add up. All of these characters are hiding something, there are so many secrets and lies your head will be spinning.⁣ Dani and Diesel have skirted around each other for almost 2 years, for reasons I am not going to spoil here, both are scared to let go and give in to their feelings but this situation is too close to home and they have to band together to protect these little boys. The Crime: The gilded Holden family - Piper and Gray and their two teenage children, Riva and Artie - have vanished from the house without trace. Her debut suspense novel, DON'T TELL, was released in July, 2003. Since then, she has published fifteen more novels and two novellas. Her seventeenth novel, ALONE IN THE DARK, will be released in 2016. Thikair plots to develop a bioweapon that will "accidentally" be released in the U.S. to fulfill the original contingency plan. This requires the kidnapping of humans as test subjects, to ensure the bioweapon will serve its purpose of killing every remaining human on Earth. When guerillas in the U.S. and Romania become aware of the Shongairi plot, they manage to save some victims, but the Shongairi use their air supremacy to continue their genocidal mission. Into the Dark starts off quite innocuously. It's like, 'there's nothing to see here folks that you haven't already seen in a hundred other domestic dramas/psychological thrillers' until it's not. The shift is infinitesimal. There's a change in the feel to the writing, it's subtly darker. Then the worms start crawling out of the woodwork, and all hell breaks loose. Julianne and Piper have been best friends since they were young and it was Julianne and their cleaner who discovered the family missing that morning. It all begins with a teenage boy struggling to save his brother from their brutal, sadistic stepfather. Michael sees a murder take place but who would believe him ? He's deaf, he's a bit of a loner and his mother who should protect him just doesn't care about anyone but herself. So when Michael meets his brothers football coach Diesel he has no idea that he's finally found the one person who not only believes him but understands everything Michael has gone through.
