About this deal

However, if you’re travelling through different countries or out in the middle of nowhere, you can’t always find screw-on gas canisters. The major cons of the Jetboil compared to the MSR reactor are basically efficiency and wind. The Jetboil kits are very sensitive to wind and the influence of strong winds has a direct impact on their performance. Unlike other outdoor heating devices in the market, the MSR Reactor produces an orange, dome-shaped flame. The relatively larger flame makes it one of the most efficient outdoor stoves. Since then, MSR vs Jetboil has been a stiff competition as both manufacturers have gone to great heights to outdo each other. Both of them have come up with better versions of their initial concepts over the years. A battle that has greatly benefited the user by providing better outdoor cooking experience.

Many versions of the MSR Reactor produce a lot of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a dangerous gas that can suffocate the user to death if the device is used in an enclosed environment. This would make it dangerous for use in a tent. The main difference is the proportion of propane to butane. More propane = better cold weather performance. The exact mix of propane, butane and isobutane is usually secret. But above 5 degreees Celsius (41 Fahrenheit), you probably don’t need any butane Even fewer knew that there are several dual fuel stoves and handy little adaptors you can get for your camping stove that will allow it to use any type of gas. The piezo-lighter on the Jetboil PCS are very delicate. If not handled with uttermost care, it can easily break. In fact, there’s a high probability it will break after a few days’ use (if you use your device often). If it breaks, you will be forced to buy a conventional lighter to ignite the burner. The lighter on the MSR Reactor is much stronger and lasts longer, it could last a lifetime if used carefully. Based on my testing, my advice would be to only use an inverted canister stove with refilled canisters to ensure that you can use all of the gas in the canister. The Kovea Spider can burn fuel from a canister oriented in either direction. I think inverted canister stoves like it are the best way to ensure you can use the entire canister contents when camping with refilled fuel canisters. The Kovea Spider stove can burn liquid fuel from a canister that’s been turned upside down.An example of an adapter for the butane canister is the Jeebel Camp G007 Butane Fuel Canister Refill Adapter. An example of the coupler valve is once again the G-WORKS Gas Saver Plus/Lindal Valve Canister Shifter/Refill Adapter/Air Vent Function. How To Recycle Jetboil Fuel Canisters

This table compares the speed and efficiency of each stove. It is based on my own tests, not on manufacturers’ information. Speed and efficiency method By Jetboil PCS I simply mean the Jetboil personal cooking system. The most recent of the Jetboil brand is the Flash cooking kit which is not quite different from the previous version, just more advanced. Judging by the looks, it’s impressive and any hiking enthusiast would love to try it out. Having given two talks on camping stoves at recent festivals, one of the key things I realised was that not everyone knows about the different types of gas canisters available for camping stoves. The stoves with the lowest centre of gravity are the Primus Lite and Lite+ at 18cm. That’s a conscious move by Primus, whose “Laminar Flow Burner Technology” allows for a shorter burner height. Camping stoves and equipment that contains no residual fuel, vapors or other hazardous materials are allowed. The Jetboil comes with an adaptor which would allow you to use a wide range of pot and pans. The MSR on the other hand can only work with its pot and no other pots. When it comes to this flexibility, the Jetboil wins. The reactor pot covers the stove’s burner but it really doesn’t attach to the stove tightly. This means you cannot hang the MSR Reactor while cooking. It also means you cannot cook on the go. Although far from heavy, the LowDown is a little weightier than we might have expected, and the price seems quite high for an accessory. However, the fact that it makes so many stoves increasingly useable means the LowDown Remote Stove Adapter is an easy way to get even more out of some of the best wild-cooking devices available, and that may justify its addition to your kit. Five things you need to know about the new MSR LowDown Remote Stove Adapter Low & stable The combustion unit of the MSR Reactors is sufficiently covered by a built-in windshield. Besides, the lower part of the pot is intricately designed to prevent wind from getting to the burner.

Again you will need to cool your receiving canister in the freezer for 20+ minutes before you can refill it with the butane canister. Some people seem to think that certain brands give a more consistent flow and let you use the full canister better. But that’s not widely experienced, there’s no obvious consistency in which are the best/worst brands, and I don’t know of any reason that would be true (ultimately, they are just metal pots filled with gas). Here is a full list of every System Stove on the market (if I’ve missed any, please do send me details!): I was surprised to find that the MSR stoves appeared to perform poorly in the tests because they have a very good reputation and, personally, the MSR WindBurner is the System Stove I choose to use most often. Ideal for individual adventurers, the OEX Tacana Solo Stove Set is a compact, lightweight piece of kit for meals on the go.

There are only a few manufacturers of [screw thread] canisters world wide, and they manufacture all the different brands. So two different brands often come off the same production line in Korea. The Kovea Alpine EZ Eco is one of the heaviest at 770g, but this is misleading since it includes its own internal gas canister. The G-Works Gas Saverplugs into gas canisters using what’s called a Lindal valve. This is a standard canister attachment system that is used universally on canister stoves (in the US, but not Europe) to ensure that canisters from different manufacturers can interoperate with other manufacturers’ stoves. For example, it’s the reason you can use Jetboil, MSR, or Primus isobutane fuel canisters with a Snow Peak canister stove. That’s why the G-Works Gas Savercaught my eye. It’s a two-way isobutane canister adapter that lets you transfer the gas from one isobutane canister to another so you can refill partially used or empty canisters. This regulator will maintain the same flame in different weather condition whether the canister is full or almost drained. The flame looks very different from what we’re used to seeing on other integrated cooking devices. Built to overcome the wind
