About this deal

Lots of children are afraid of the dark, but this story is great for teaching children that the dark isn't so scary after all. It could even be used at home, as well as at school. Plop, the Baby Barn Owl, is like every Barn Owl there ever was, except for one thing - he is afraid of the dark. Lots of illustrations to keep children engaged. Provides a large scope for comprehension tasks i.e. creating their own chapter spinning off or adding to the story, exploring empathy towards the characters. Opening up opportunities for the children to really engage with the thoughts and feelings associated with this story. The author describes Plop as fat, fluffy, soft and perfect. Can you think of other adjectives? Can you find synonyms for these words?

The chapter titles all begin with ‘Dark is?’. Can you think of other ways of describing the dark? Could you write another chapter for the story linked to your description? Who might the owl meet in your chapter? Deschide ochii, îi zise ea lui Buf, stând într-un picior, cu ciorapul în mână, în timp ce încerca să-și încalțe la loc cizma. Describing fireworks: In the story, fireworks are described as 'a fountain of dancing stars sprang up from the ground'. How would you describe your favourite firework? After reading this story with children in year 1 during their topic of Light & Dark, it had a great link with various of lessons; light sources, Guy Fawkes night, festivals of light and things that we can see in the dark tent. It was a really useful book for the children to link what they have been learning about in Geography and Science with Light & Dark to what happened in the story with Plop, and it could also link with children's fears of the dark and explaining to them all the positives that happen and that they will see when it is dark outside. It can definitely be used as a cross curricular book in Science, Art, Literacy and Geography with the topic of Light & Dark in the national Curriculum. Este... este... oh, nici nu am cuvinte, zise Buf. Dar ai dreptate, Orion. Sunt într-adevăr o pasăre de noapte, până la urmă. Făceam pe interesantul dormind toată noaptea. Nici n-am știu ce pierd.Make a timetable that shows the things that you do on a typical day. Add the things that Plop does during his day. How are they similar / different? Can you plan and write a story about another animal who is afraid of something that animal normally likes?

On 13 February 2022, the BBC broadcast the story on their CBeebies Bedtime Story programme, read by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. What's more, because all of the activities are based on a popular book, you can be sure that your children will stay interested and engaged. This will boost their learning experience and help them to do well. A really lovely story about a baby barn owl called Plop who does not follow the stereotypical owl instinct of being nocturnal due to the fact that he does not like night time, and dread being out in the dark. The story is set as Plop being the main protagonist, in which he describes the world at night is ‘nasty’ and repeats the phrase “I don’t like it AT ALL", adding extra emphasis to the fact he doesn't like the dark. As the story goes on, Plop meets many different characters, and experiences many new things, helping him to move beyond the negative mage he has previously built up about the dark.

The much-beloved children's classic story about Plop, the baby owl - as read by the Duchess of Cambridge on BBC's CBeebies Bedtime Stories to mark Mental Health Week.Nu mă așteptam să îmi placă așa mult această cărticică, și chiar mă bucur că am reușit să trăiesc clipe frumoase alături de micuțul Buf care evoluează văzând cu ochii, devenind o adevărată bufniță de hambar.
