The main camera captures stellar, flagship-grade stills. Detail is great, and so is dynamic range. In typical Samsung fashion, the colors look nice with just a bit of extra vibrancy.
The Apple image processing includes all legacy features like Smart HDR, Night Mode on all cameras, and now Photonic Engine. The selfie viewfinder offers two zoom models - wide and standard (cropped). This is quite common among Galaxy phones. Having different aperture on for the lens is great - the camera can choose a brighter aperture to let more light at night, while opting for a slower one during the day to makes the photos sharper and extend the depth of field. As webcams become more integrated into your PC, so does the software that accompanies them. Several popular online and offline webcam software are becoming widely available on the net. The zoomed low-light videos are quite usable - they keep enough fine detail; the exposure is good and the colors are accurate. The video is noisy, but not to quality-ruining extent.The viewfinder has two fixed zoom levels 3.5x and 10x, but you can pinch-zoom your way to all sorts of intermediate steps. The 8MP ultrawide camera produces very satisfactory photos. These have plenty of detail, and there is practically no noise. There isn't much edge softness either, and distortion correction is working really well. All the while, these photos aren't overly cropped and are pretty wide. The Auto Night Mode is the default state and we would advise leaving it as is - it rarely triggers on the primary and telephoto camera, but almost every time on the ultrawide camera - and it does need it. Xiaomi has definitely upped its game and the partnership with Leica has made its high-end phones known for their excellent photo and video quality. Plus, having Leica's Vibrant and Authentic modes means you will be getting the best from two universes - Samsung-like punchy rendition and Apple-like realistic one. The Huawei Mate 50 Pro has a thoroughly interesting camera department, as is the tradition with the company's flagships. While you won't see Leica logos on the Mate, it does impress with the lens for the primary camera that offer variable aperture between f/1.4 and f/4.0, something that Huawei has named Ultra Aperture XMAGE camera.
There are three FoVs available for the 13MP selfie camera corresponding to 18mm, 22mm and 27mm in 35mm equivalent, or as the UI calls them Wide, 0.8x and 1x. The video bitrate is about 56Mbps for the 4K footage and about 100Mbps for the 8K videos. Audio is always recorded in stereo with 260Kbps bitrate, and it always sounds great.
The photo mode defaults to Leica Vibrant mode with AI turned off, and we adopted this mode as a default one for our tests, naturally. So you can take seriously high-resolution shots, and you can also use it to record video in up to 4K quality at up to 60fps. Instead, you can just shoot from as close as 3cm away with the ultrawide camera and you will get some exemplary close-ups with detailed centers, sharp, and well-developed intricate objects. The contrast remains high, the dynamic is great, and the color rendition is accurate and lively. We also want to praise these photos for the great handling of noise. The iPhone 14 shoots acceptable ultrawide photos by always using the Night Mode (usually 1-2s as opposed to 2s-3s on the iPhone 13). The images offer balanced exposure and good-looking color saturation; the contrast is good, too. Judging by the UI in general, there's little to no change in the default camera app for a couple of generations now. So it wasn't hard to find our way around it.The photos it captures are pretty wide. Resolved detail is solid, contrast is great, and color rendition is very accurate. Dynamic range is nearly identical to the main camera. That is to say, well balanced, but not too wide. The 50MP telephoto camera also shoots impressive night photos. They are as great as the primary ones when it comes to colors, dynamic range, noise reduction and the overall processing. The image sensor on this camera is smaller, though, and that's why the photos are not as incredibly detailed and if enough. The 4K@30 clips have a bitrate of 39-40Mbps. Audio is always captured stereo with 96kbps bitrate, but don't let the low number fool you - the sound is usually clean of wind and other disruptions and decently rich. The 4K videos from the ultrawide camera are equally brilliant. They excel in everything and have to be among the most detailed ones we've seen, as far as ultrawide cameras go.
And of course you could always use the other lenses for selfies – albeit slightly awkwardly – and these really excel. The 50MP main sensor coupled with Google’s excellent software and algorithms can capture some of the best images you’ll find from a phone, and the 12MP ultra-wide and 48MP telephoto (with 4x optical zoom) impress too. The camera app is the same one you'd find on every Samsung phone these days when it comes to basic operation. Vertical swipes in either direction will switch between front and rear cameras.The 11.1MP f/2.2 selfie camera is the weakest of its lenses, but being an ultra-wide one it still stands out from the crowd, as you can fit more people in your shots than with most selfie cameras.
