I did believe that BTC would improve the world before reading this theory and that it could help prevent wars but it was all based on the monetary aspect/assumptions I had of the BTC protocol. I see now that this new information fills in a lot of gaps and makes my argument for this much stronger. I want to live in a world in which “mutually assured preservation” is the physical power projection of choice. This thesis is a step closer in creating a world in which physical power projections can be expressed in cyberspace. This changes nearly everything. The substantial electrical power (which for Bitcoin is now over 50% from green inputs) is a feature, not a bug. Bitcoin’s contribution to CO2 is just 1/12 of 1% and improving. Less than gold mining and Bitcoin’s value has been increasing much faster than gold’s over the past decade.

Why did I rate it 4 stars? The writing is jargon-laden, and he introduces a lot of new terminology. It is also highly repetitive and somewhat tedious especially, for me, in the early chapters. Jason Lowery wrote the paper during a 6-month fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which was sponsored by the Department of Defense. A highly recommended read if you want to dive into the world of Bitcoin and understand its essence.The book explains that Bitcoin has the potential to function as an electro cyber-defense protocol rather than just a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. This is a must-read for those seeking to learn about bitcoin’s potential to transform traditional financial systems. Evidently, The Bitcoin Standard has “orange-pilled” more people than any other book! 🟠 Effectively, Lowery explains how the proof-of-work system underlying BTC transaction verification can be used by military powers to impose restrictions on bad actors through a non-lethal but rigorous amount of physical labor under the guise of number crunching. As I read through it.. my initial thoughts tend to follow my experiences around me to believe that Abstract Power projection is the best form of power projection (even though I didn’t have a word for “abstract power projection previously). TBH, before reading this thesis I would have said something like “War is unnecessary.. and that intelligent people can avoid war.. we just need the right people in charge to be secure/safe/avoid war”.
