About this deal

Lussier, Germain (March 12, 2015). "Plot Descriptions of Upcoming Star Wars Novels Reveal New Characters". /Film . Retrieved December 8, 2015. Sanbra sector (First appearance, simultaneous with Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure and The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure) Sean Keane of the New York Daily News wrote "' Lost Stars may be marketed as a Young Adult novel, but Gray crafts a well written, enthralling narrative that will appeal to Star Wars fans of all ages." [6] Thane Kyrell a child in a rich family, and Ciena Ree, a poor valley girl, are the two central characters of our narrative. Childhood friends, whom despite their differences fight to help each other reach the lauded Royal Imperial Academy on Coruscant. From there they build carriers within the ranks of the Empire to varying degrees of success. Each exposed to the propaganda and its use in hiding the real evil of the Empire.

Perhaps the great writing of Gray is highlighted with the words “She stood before him at last. Their eyes met. And Ciena punched him in the gut, hard.” – I was literally blown away. So unexpected, yet so perfect for the character. Two star characters, with a love lost to war. Bitter and disillusioned, Thane joins the fledgling Rebellion—putting Ciena in an unbearable position to choose between her loyalty to the Empire and her love for the man she's known since childhood. Internal Affairs (First mentioned, simultaneous with Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know) Whether it is a young Princess Leia appearing at their passing out parade at the Academy, or Ciena chasing her Tantive IV ship – each appearance has impact, and it is fun to see the opinions and attitudes of our characters, and their friends including one Nash Windrider from Alderaan whom in my opinion steals the book. Honestly, Thane is a character which didn't need to be one of the protagonists because he comes off as a fairly vanilla character compared to Ciena. We've seen kids with daddy issues and disrespect for authority join the Rebellion many times before. He could have easily been a supporting character in Ciena's story and it would have probably made a (slightly) stronger novel.

Success!

Eight years after the fall of the Old Republic, The Galactic Empire now reigns over the known galaxy. Resistance to the Empire has been all but silenced. Only a few courageous leaders such as Bail Organa of Alderaan still dare to openly oppose Emperor Palpatine.

Time and again, the vicious raiders known as the Nihil have sought to bring the golden age of the High Republic to a fiery end. Time and again, the High Republic has emerged battered and weary but victorious thanks to its Jedi protectors—and there is no monument to their cause grander than the Starlight Beacon. Climaxing with The Battle of Jakku, Ciena is the commanding officer that chooses to crash the destroyer into the planet, an “ethical” decision she learnt in the early days of her training at the beginning of the novel. But was the decision based on her having lost her love, Thane, and the unbearable life in the Empire being all she had left, or had the darkness of losing that love scarred and changed her….it was quite an emotional end, and left open enough for the reader to form their own opinion. Thane and Ciena's relationship remains sabotaged until their graduation from the Imperial Academy, where they reconcile during the graduation ceremony, dancing together. Gonzalez, Dave (September 11, 2015). "What happened in Star Wars after Return of the Jedi?". Geek.com. Archived from the original on June 9, 2017 . Retrieved December 8, 2015. In a lot of ways, Lost Stars is perhaps the perfect Star Wars book... Lost Stars is everything I ever wanted from a Star Wars book and perhaps more."-- Nerdophiles

Customer reviews

LOST STARS by Claudia Gray is probably one of my top five Star Wars books with the others being THE THRAWN TRILOGY by Timothy Zahn and SHATTERPOINT by Matthew Stover. It is a book which doesn't talk about Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han, or the other characters but follows two original characters through the events of the Galactic Civil War (A New Hope to the Battle of Jakku following Return of the Jedi).

The novel was released in conjunction with Star Wars: Aftermath on September 4, 2015, as a part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens publishing initiative, in preparation for the December 18, 2015 release of the seventh installment in the film saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. [3] Ratcliffe, Amy (October 10, 2015). "NYCC 2015: Disney and Lucasfilm Announce New Titles in Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens". IGN . Retrieved December 8, 2015.The premise of the books is a variation on Romeo and Juliet in Space. In this case, aristocrat Thane Kyrell and rural poor-girl Ciena Ree are born on the same planet in the Outer Rim territories. Both of them are extremely good pilots, though, and manage to qualify to go to the Imperial Academy on Coruscant due to a chance encounter with Grand Moff Tarkin on a good day. Once enrolled, Thane Kyrell becomes increasingly disillusioned with the Empire while Ciena becomes increasingly fervernt. The pair fall in love but their politics manage to separate them just before the Death Star's completion signals the beginning of a new age in the galaxy. D'Qar (First appearance, simultaneous with Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure and The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure) Cienas Hintergrund ist deutlich bescheidener als Thanes. The story rests on its protagonists with Ciena Ree being a Force-believing, moral, and exceptionally idealistic young woman. I.e. She's the person you normally would think would be drawn to the Rebellion. However, Ciena Ree comes from a culture which strongly emphasizes oaths and tradition. Once she's sworn allegiance to the Galactic Empire, that is it and you don't go against your home government. Thane is a snooty rich kid but he has a passionate loathing of authority thanks to his abusive father and sees that attitude everywhere in the Empire.
