For instance, Whiskas suggests that kittens should have one pouch a meal with kitten food pouches, two to four times a day. For adult kitties, it's 240 calories a day, which should be a mixture of dry and wet food, leaving out some in the day for moggies to graze on. Two meals (two pouches or one can) should be enough to sustain your adult cat. Is wet cat food healthy for teeth? As the condition progresses, the cat will lose weight and may show other clinical symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, a plantigrade gait, urinary tract infections and cataracts. Nutritional needs change as pets grow older. A diet for a growing kitten is very different to one formulated for a fifteen year old elderly cat. You may be surprised to learn that adult cats need more protein as a percentage of their overall diet than either humans or dogs do. Up until recently, the industry has followed traditional guidelines from organisations such as The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) or the European Pet Food Industry Federation (FEDIAF). As an example, AAFCO recommends a minimum of 30 per cent crude protein in their diet on a dry matter basis for growing cats, lactating cats or kittens. While this recipe does contain a few added plant ingredients, the overall carbohydrate content is still low—especially in comparison to the average dry food. It doesn’t contain grains or difficult-to-digest beans and legumes, but it does contain added fiber from cranberries and pumpkin.This type of food also contains quality fibre, which promotes the proper functioning of the entire intestinal system. What can you do to help your cat digest better? Dry foods are usually the most economical and easiest for you to feed and store. Dry cat food can be left out all day for your cat to nibble on and is beneficial for their teeth and gums.
