About this deal

Although shrubs are usually very robust garden plants, they can sometimes start to decline with no apparent or obvious reason. Most shrubs will grow happily in containers, but they will be much more demanding on feeding and watering than shrubs in the ground would be. They will also need potting on every couple of years so that they don’t suffocate or become stunted in their pot. The size of pot the plant is in always matches its requirements, particularly in terms of root space. So, naturally, bigger plants are delivered in bigger pots!

Easy to grow and extremely fragrant, the Tricolour Buddleia is a fantastic, tough and reliable shrub. A really lovely plant, noted for a compact habit and amazing flower production and colour. This really does have vivid rich colour unlike any other buddleia seen before. The plants are really well branched, which means extra florets of blooms compared to other varieties, and these appear all summer long. Like all Buddleias, this is a butterfly magnet, although it will of course draw people to its honey fragranced flowers as well! We offer a range of ‘feature size’ plants in 5-litre pots. These bigger plants are fantastic for providing immediate high impact colour in your garden, or placed in a pot on the patio as an instant feature plant. Plant the shrub at the same depth as it was in its original pot. Planting too deeply can result in root and stem rot.

2 Litre Pots:

pots are ideal for planting younger, more compact plants. Smaller perennials we sell in 1.5L pots include, Dianthus ‘Candy Floss’, Dierama erectum and Lavandula Beezee White. 2 Litre Pots: Climbers should be planted at the same depth as the pot. Water the plant thoroughly after planting, especially in the first few years and during bad weather. Plants against walls may not receive as much rainfall as the plants in the rest of the garden. Make sure you loosen the soil prior to planting. Most shrubs are tolerant of most soil types as long as it is fairly well draining.

All shrubs benefit from dead-heading once spent flowers become apparent. Rhododendrons and Lilac especially benefit from the removal of dead flowers. Climbing plants are used to cover arches, obelisks, pergolas, fences and buildings. They can also be used to cover up unsightly features and masonry. True climbers take up little ground space and are perfect for small gardens. Wall shrubs, on the other hand, require more ground space.

When digging the hole you shouldallow for around 30% increase in the pot size for depth and width so for example a 20 litre pot is 34cm diameter x 27cm depth - the planting hole should be around 44cm diameter x 35cm depth. The same calculation can be used if repotting into a larger pot on arrival. It has self-rooting tips which spread rapidly to form a dense, ground-hugging, weed suppressing carpet that makes efficient and attractive ground cover among other taller shrubs. Perfect for establishing on slopes and cascading over walls, its tolerance of a wide range of light and soil conditions also makes it an excellent choice for covering the bare ground beneath trees and tall shrubs. Container grown shrubs can be grown at any time of year. It is a little known fact that shrubs planted in the autumn and winter will be easier to look after than those planted in the spring and summer, because they will have time to establish and become hardy in the cooler months.
