About this deal

Unsaturated polyester resin – note that ‘polyester resin’ refers often acts as a shortened version. Temperature: any work with resin should be done at warm temperatures ideally around 20ºC, as this ensures the resin will cure correctly. Resin will not cure adequately below 15°C and may require catalyst concentration adjustment. Temperatures above 30ºC may see curing that is too fast. Note : be careful with painted surfaces. In general, polyesters are not comparable with single pot paint systems and adverse reactions are likely to occur. If it is to be attempted a small area should be aggressively sanded and a primer such as Primax or G4 applied followed by the polyester application and then assessed on its suitability over a few days. Excessive amounts of resin form a brittle layer and often fracture and splits, exposing the underlying surface to water ingress.

Mix the catalyst and resin thoroughly prior to application. Use a clean, dry mixing instrument. A slight colour change from pink to brown should occur. The laminate layer of glass fibre matting presents a seamless, durable and aesthetically pleasing surface

Avoid conditions when inclement weather is due including formation of frost or dew onto surfaces unlikely to have cured before that presence. Bath is tiled so queue a bit of to-ing and fro-ing we eventually get access and my fitter changes the waste. Leak remains. Note: glass fibre matting should be prepared in advance of any resin application. As detailed later on in these instructions, catalysed resin has a short shelf life (15-30 minutes), so applicators will have a limited amount of time before the resin hardens. Several tips and recommendations on the handling of catalyst are detailed below. Please be aware of these before application. Picture: paddle rollers are metal instruments with grooved surfaces designed to drive air out of laminated matting, creating a more consistent surface and one which improves adhesion to the underlying substrate and in the case of 2 x 450 gram CSM, refines the two layers of glass fibre matting.

Also known as chopped strand mat (CSM), it exists in a range of sizes, from 300 to 900 g/m2. The units are the weight per surface area, with the industry standard being written as ‘grams per square meter’. Typically, a polyester roller is used for most applications, although a paintbrush may be required for smaller regions or hard-to-reach areas. Diall Fibreglass Mesh Tape White 50mm x 90m: Diall Fibreglass Mesh Tape White 50mm x 90m is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1. Rated 5 out of 5 by Mike61 from Exactly what i needed Great product, ideal for building up arbors under reelseats when building fishong rods. New en-suite bathroom fitted Feb/March 2022. All new construction into extension so all new pipes and fittings etc.Griffon WDF-05 Wet & Dry Fast Curing Cement has a slightly blue colour to give an easily recognised glued state of joints which is useful in large pipework installations, as it is sometimes easy to forget to glue a joint! You have made a wise decision, if I may say so without coming across as patronising. Some people drive themselves batty over "the principle of the thing". I always think, ordure occurs and if clearing it up costs me but not unreasonably, I just take the hit and calm down. Catalyst is added and stirred to activate the topcoat. Add catalyst at a concentration of 1 – 4 %, depending on conditions. Mix enough topcoat for no more than 2 to 3 m2 to avoid wasting material. The topcoat can be painted or rolled on. Tissue. This is a very fine mesh that when applied to the external uncured glass mat will assist its conformation to awkward shapes….eg .sharp external corners.

Note : topcoat with catalyst at 2% at 20oC temperatures has a workable pot life of 20 minutes. Curing will be shorter at higher temperatures and higher catalyst concentrations. Rendering onto plywood: When this was done on our loft conversion, the plasterer first stapled a sheet of Tyvek (synthetic roofing felt) over the ply. Then he stapled - securely - SS mesh over the surface, and rendered on to this (make sure you fit the mesh the right way up - one way will catch the render, the other way will allow it to slop off!). Paul wants to create a laminated surface. The weather is hot – 25oC and it’s summer. He decides to create 1 kg of catalysed resin and this will require approximately 10Ml catalyst at 1% by volume. Mix thoroughly using a clean instrument. Prepare up to 2 – 3 kg of topcoat depending on experience and requirements. Saturate the resin in a polyester roller (or a paintbrush for smaller areas) and roll across the laminated surface.Never use under 1% catalyst – even when hot – as the resin will not cure. Just use smaller quantities or wait until temperatures become more workable.
