About this deal

GuideRails exist to allow each runner’s unique stride while guiding the foot into better alignment with knees to minimize torque on knees and hips. JORDYNN: The women’s Launch 9 weighs in at about 7.05 oz. The upper material is made up of a Creel Wrap mesh for a tighter fit. The midsole is made of the infamous BioMoGo DNA foam, and sits on a rubber outsole. The color combo is an orangish pink with a navy blue accent. The fit is true to size with a neutral width, and it was designed for good energy return, smooth transitions, and a springy step. The Good ENHANCED BREATHABILITY: Reengineered upper features Creel Warp mesh, designed to be extremely lightweight and breathable. Hints of reflectivity on the upper to increase visibility on the road.

Similarly the Brooks Launch 9 is a neutral shoe and would be the lighter ,speedier version of the Brooks Ghost. As the Brooks Launch doesn’t have guide rails this does make the shoes slightly lighter. A Men’s UK 8 is 232 grams and a Women’s UK 5 is 201 grams.

Shannon (GTS) : Somehow Brooks managed to add 2 more mm of cushioning material but keep this shoe feeling like a lightweight trainer. While I do feel as though my previous Launch did feel like a little “less shoe,” it’s hard to recall if it felt like that in its early miles. This extra couple mm of material have not made this shoe feel bulkier or heavier ( and in fact it is lighter in weight), but we still derive the benefit of just a smidgeon of additional cushioning. All applicable customs and import duties and any other charges are the responsibility of the customer. The Brooks Launch GTS was previously called the Ravenna but to make it easier to identify the shoes that offer some pronation support Brooks decided to tag all of the shoes that offer pronation support with GTS eg Adrenaline GTS, Addition GTS etc.

The tongue is lightly padded which I found offered enough protection from the laces. The laces slot through a tab on the tongue to prevent it from slipping either side. The Brook Launch 9 is available in both a GTS version with some pronation support and none GTS version. The Brooks Launch GTS 9 is for those who require some pronation support and the Brook Launch 9 is for those blessed with neutral feet that don’t need any anti pronation support. Like the GTS 8—only with an added 2 mm. of padding—the GTS 9 has a midsole made of Brooks’ eco-friendly BioMoGo DNA foam, a firm and springy foam that also breaks down 50x faster than EVA to contribute less waste (don’t worry, we’re talking after years in a landfill, not during the life of the shoe). The upper is a very light one piece polyester. The heel cup is nicely padded. Not to the same extent as a Brooks Ghost or Brooks Adrenaline but more than adequate to be comfortable. Although the added padding around the heel of the Ghost and Adrenaline add to the feeling of comfort. Like you are slipping into a soft sofa. When out on the run I don’t think this level of padding improves the comfort. The slightly less padded heel cup of the Brooks Launch is more to my liking. The heel cup is plastic so that is offers some support but not so stiff that it will cause any discomfort. It is flexible enough to pull around your heel when you lace the shoes up to give a snug feel. This version of this shoe also gets a green rubber outsole, in that it’s made of silica and not petroleum, so it’s more sustainable. It also gets a Creel Mesh upper, which is basically just a mesh upper made to sound cool. New Green Rubber outsole (not the color) is made of silica, making it more sustainable for the environment. BioMoGo needs to die because it’s already dead. It just feels lifeless, and it has for the last three years. At least in shoes like the Saucony Kinvara 13 there’s a bit of comfort and pop even though it’s pretty firm. The bottom line is this upper is actually very elaborate in construction, very supportive and comfortable but I am not sure particularly breathable as while thin, overall the mesh is dense with no light showing through as seen in the picture above.

Topo Fli-Lyte 4: A much broader more rounded toe box with a firmer more responsive ride. 3mm from heel to forefoot. The ride of these will make them a shoe for faster running only for most runners. Although they do have enough underfoot to warm up and down in the shoes. Here is a link to our review: https://www.northernrunner.com/blog/topo-athletic-fli-lyte-4-review/ My sample pair was a half size up from my normal US 8.5 and fits very well but it is long so in a future pair I would go true to size. There is plenty of toe box room, well held with just two small overlays near lace up. The toe bumper below the denser front orange weave is quite firm more vertical than the weave would indicate over the toes and clearly has a plastic stiffener of some kind. Last year Brooks consolidated their neutral and stability line-ups, changing not only the names but also the fit of their stability shoes while retaining their stability feature of GuideRails. The light-stability model went from Ravenna 11 to Launch GTS 8, taking the name “Launch” from Brooks’ neutral shoe and adding “GTS,” now meaning “Go To Support” rather than the past acronym of “Go To Shoe.” My review pair is GTS (Go-To-Support) which means it has a lateral Guide Rail extending from the heel to mid foot of the same foam as the midsole and a co-molded slightly firmer than midsole foam on the medial side. JAYTON: The laces are crap. It really isn’t a big deal and proof that I don’t have many bad things to say about this shoe but it’s annoying because I’ll probably end up switching them out. The lightweight Green Rubber outsole is wonderful in ideal conditions but I found myself slipping in wet conditions, especially when it was both cold and wet. Additionally, the tongue of the shoe isn’t my favorite design because it can get folded under.
