About this deal

I suggest using this clay for crafts that you intend to keep grey, like a fake concrete pot or ornament. There are two different ways to approach creating your own frame with DAS clay. You could upcycle an existing frame, preferably a wooden frame, with shapes and details created with the clay layered on top. Or you could create the frame from the clay itself, wrapping ribbon and other craft elements into the mix. I had an idea to create a frame from the clay, in which I could display a collage of things that I found inspirational. I found a small IKEA frame which I decided to decorate with kitty shapes cut from the clay. This is a really simple custom project that even an idiot could make – I know, because I am that idiot, and I’m really pleased with the results.” – Lis Read more about the inspiration behind Lis’ frame and how DAS changed her approach to crafting and her motivation to be more creative this year, in her blog post here. Sculpting and modeling with the DAS stone clay is very easy. It’s soft but slightly fibrous, just like the white and terracotta clay, compared to other air hardening clays.

DAS air dry clay is not flammable, it won’t catch on fire. If you expose it to a source of an open fire (for example a lighter, or a candle) it will char followed by a burnt paper smell. When you touch the darkened, burnt part it will turn into ash. There are no specific instructions for this clay. You should work with it as you would do with any other air hardening clay. It’s an Italian modeling paste that is based on natural substances, it’s gluten-free and dermatologically tested. DAS air hardening clay is available in three colors: white, terracotta, and grey (DAS stone effect clay – read my review for the Stone Effect clay here). You can use an acrylic sealer, a wood, or yacht varnish to seal your clay creations. Applying varnish ( one or more coats) will not only protect your craft from moisture (dry air hardening clay crafts can soak up moisture and disintegrate) but also makes them stronger and easier to clean with a damp cloth. Storing and safetyWe set crafters, artists and creatives across the country the challenge to #BeInspired and explore the possibilities of the DAS range. From jewellery and ceramics to picture frames and wall hangings, read more about their experience using DAS for the first time. You can easily paint DAS stone clay, like any other air drying clay, with acrylics, tempera, or watercolors. If you’re looking for a bright color, add a layer of white paint first to make the colors pop.

Lifestyle, Fashion and Crafter Paige took on our #BeInspired with her astronomical themed mobile, for her blog Paige Joanna. I’ve been using white DAS clay for years, but I was curious what was the difference in the DAS Stone clay? Is it stronger? Does it have a different feel or consistency? Also, cover your work surface and surroundings, the superfine clay particles will cover everything. If you want to increase or maximize the strength of your air dry clay crafts read my article on how to make clay crafts stronger. Painting and Sealing

Air dry clay doesn’t need a kiln or an oven to cure. Although you can put it into the oven and bake it to speed up the process. To make it harden faster, put it into the cold oven, on a tray with aluminum foil. Set it to the lowest temperature, and leave it for 15-20 minutes, turn it off and leave it in until it cools off. Repeat it if your craft hasn’t dried fully. If you plan to use air dry clay on the pottery wheel, read this cool post by Pottery Crafters for recommendations. They’ve tested 3 air drying clay brands to find the one that’s best for molding on the wheel. You just need an inkjet printer, a cool image, and a batch of DAS air dry clay (I’m not sure if it would transfer onto other brands, I will try it and let you know).
