About this deal

In the book, Henry and his family travel on the ferry to France. This scene is omitted from the episode, possibly due to time constraints.

Cohen, Morton N. & Wakeling, Edward. Lewis Carroll and his illustrators (Macmillan, London, 2003) pp.22–27. In the episode, Dad, Henry and Peter swim in the lake. In the book, Dad says they'll swim in the river, but this isn't shown. Between 1912 and 1919 he painted the apse of the east end of St Benedict's Church at Small Heath, Birmingham, depicting Christ in Glory with angels, and saints in arcading, below, in Byzantine style. [19] On his return to England in 1872, he commissioned architect Basil Champneys to design a new family home in Branch Hill, Hampstead, which was named "Oak Tree House". In 1888, William Gladstone was a visitor. [14] Baldry, A. L. Henry Holiday (Biographical details)". British Museum . Retrieved 13 October 2017. Holiday's 'The Bride and the Daughters of Jerusalem' (1861–3) has also disappeared, but the study (1982,0515.22) clearly reflects the influence of Rossetti and Burne Jones. In the book, Dad attempts to cook baked beans on the campfire, but is stopped by the rain. In the episode, they eat toasted marshmallows on the fire.

Henry goes to the woods to collect the firewood, but is spooked by a bird and trips over a tree root. Henry comes running out of the woods and trips again, this time over a tent peg belonging to the French Camper's tent. He realises that there is plenty of wood right there and takes pegs from the tent and one from the washing line. The washing line collapses again and this time though, the French Camper is having a campfire. A pair of the French Camper's underpants that were on the line land in the fire. Frantically, he takes out the underpants and stamps out the flames, but is left with a hole burnt in them. In 1860 Holiday had painted another scene from La Vita Nuova that showed a meeting between Dante and Beatrice when they were children in the garden of Beatrice's father, and in 1875 he painted a portrait of Dante. In addition to the completed painting of Dante and Beatrice, the Walker Art Gallery owns three sketches he made for it. Two of these depict all the figures, while the third is of Dante alone. Holiday had also made nude plaster statuettes of the two main female figures to which he later added clothing. These are also owned by the gallery. [1] The model for Beatrice was Eleanor Butcher, Milly Hughes modelled for Monna Vanna, and the model for the maidservant was Kitty Lushington. [1]Something I enjoy is painting. I have taken quite a few art classes and find it very creative to work with paint and charcoal and images instead of words, though somehow I can't help adding bits of poetry and scraps of words into my paintings, too… When I was at school, I was completely obsessed by the Pre-Raphaelites, and I love the way their art is so intertwined with poetry and stories. My best friend is an artist and she is incredibly inspiring to me. I also enjoy being in the city—although I wouldn't want to live there all the time, it's fun to go window shopping or to big new exhibitions or shows, or just hang out in a coffee shop with a cappuccino and a notebook and watch the busy world go by.
