About this deal

The WPS button would be on your router if your router supports WPS, press and hold the WPS button for a few seconds. Alternately there may be a WPS PIN number on the label, perhaps on the bottom of the router.

This is my third time getting this. The first two occasions I got the non-wireless version (for 100 dollars, you can't pass on that). This time, the wireless version was cheaper (go figure). I've already written a review for the other model. This is specific to the wireless model. The printed material with the device is also in very light print. The screen for scanning is tiny & the choices are hard to read. There is no excuse for these deficiencies. While Graphics and photo quality, on the other hand, while passable, could have been better. The darker fills and gradients in our test PowerPoint slides and Excel charts and graphs came out with some noticeable banding and other flaws, such as hairlines of about 1 point and smaller that didn't render properly. Photos, too, showed some banding, and detail wasn't as good as we've seen from some other monochrome laser printers. This is not to say, though, that graphics and photo output was unsightly; most users will probably find it acceptable for internal business use, if not for prospective clients and others you want to impress. Running Costs Compared with the Canon printers mentioned here so far, the HP M130fw's print quality is a bit below average overall. Text quality is terrific, very near typesetter quality. The smallest font size we test, 4 points, came out well shaped and highly legible (even though I needed magnification to see it clearly). Text output, then, should be suitable for most business scenarios that don't require color. For convenient mobile printing, the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fw is compatible with Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, HP ePrint, and Mopria Print Service.

Scanner drivers that come with the printer are awful with Windows. They don't even work actually. Just use the software available on Windows or the app I suggested.

The scanning software did once fail to reopen after closing. Others have reported this. To remedy, I opened the computer Task Manager, found the scanning software running, and killed it, and then was able to reopen. When I added our more complicated color Acrobat, PowerPoint, and Excel documents containing graphics and photos to the mix, I measured the M130fw's print speed at 10.5ppm, which is significantly slower than the MF249dw's 16.3ppm, and slower still than the MFC-L5700DW's 21.6ppm. You must enter the exact uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters. Otherwise, the wireless connection fails. The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fw has been designed to be easy to use, without having to compromise on the size or functionality of the printer. It has one 150-sheet input tray that can handle a range of different media types, up to A4 in size, and the flatbed scanner can produce monochrome documents up to a resolution of 1200 dpi. At the side of the printer is a 2.7" colour touchscreen that provides details on the status of your jobs, as well as indicates if there are any problems, such as the toner running low or a paper jam. Advantages If you have Windows 8 or more recent, set-up is straightforward. Do not use the disk. I set up mine on Ethernet but it works exactly the same on WLAN. It got recognized instantly (as Fax, Printer and Scanner) by all computers (Windows 10, macOS Sierra). It was ready to use in 10 seconds. When scanning via the automatic document feeder (ADF), the image will appear tilted by a few degrees despite feeding into the machine perfectly straight. Nothing gets cut off, but it's a bit annoying. At first I was dismayed by the apparent poor scanning resolution of 300 DPI, but that is only when using the automatic document feeder (ADF). If one changes the setting to Flatbed, and placing one document at a time, the scan resolution is up to 1200 DPI in color. Thing is, I tried this method before installing the HP software and didn't have success. But afterward, it worked.... so YMMV.

Please provide the product number of your printer and operating system you are running on your PC to assist you better. We have this printer on our home wireless network, and we have not observed any slowing of the wireless network reported by others. We have a Netgear Nighthawk router. In Windows, search for view network connections, and select View network connections from the search results. Main functions of the HP M130fw laser printer: monochrome Print, Scanner, copier, fax, wireless printing, color touchscreen, and more I'm not sure if HP purposely gimped the software on this thing, but it's not the first time a hardware manufacturer has done something like that when selling a budget-minded version of a more expensive product.

Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. See how we test. This multi-function device is good value for the money. It was easy to set up for basic use. The printing quality is adequate. It scans & copies adequately. I have not tried the fax function. It is relatively small and moderately quiet. I would recommend this product. It does have some serious problems. The touch screen in front is hard to get to & use. Everything HP does with notices and instructions is in very small font and/or The unit will sometimes lose network connectivity even though it *thinks* it's still connected - a reboot fixes the issue, my firmware is fully updated as of Dec 2018. This is probably a once-a-quarter thing. The official software only offered resolutions of 75 (who uses this?), 200, and 300dpi. Supposedly the printer does up to 600 (more on this afterward), but that option was not provided. Regardless, none of the new settings offered any improvement to the scan quality. Connect the printer to your network from the printer control panel with the Wireless Setup Wizard so the HP installer can find the printer during the installation.

The printer meets our needs. We rarely need color printing, and so opted for the much cheaper to operate B&W laser.
