About this deal

If you’re looking for compression tights, these are not it. The material is way too light and thin to provide any type of compression, and the ribbed face is quite unique. We weren’t initially huge fans, but the supple feel grew on us after further testing. Shorts are pretty simple. Aside from the materials, there are a few other variables to consider, though. The road runner needs a versatile garment that is as happy in the sun as it is in the rain, and these shorts deliver on both counts. Inseams: Longer inseams (generally, 7 to 9 inches for men and 4 to 8 inches for women) provide more coverage, which can be beneficial if you’re hitting the trails, want sun protection, or just prefer a modest cut. Shorter inseams (around 3 inches and sometimes even shorter for women) and spandex are great for speed workouts, race day, and runs when you want to feel fast and flash a little thigh. There are no storage options with the Heritage short, but their silky smooth feel makes them one of the most comfortable on test. There are eight sizing options, too, for those who prefer a precise, dialled-in fit. Read our full Nike Dri-FIT Heritage 10cm Short review RELATED CONTENT:

The lightweight outer layer and supportive inner keepyou cool, dry and comfortable even as your workout heats up. Why do some runners wear short shorts, while others opt for longer, above the knee types? Well, there are pretty good reasons for both. There are no hard and fast rules butdifferentshort lengths lend themselves to different purposes. Have a look at some of the scenarios befitting the scale of short lengths.

You’ll find shorts on our list in all lengths, fits, and flavors—but the best style is truly the one that feels best on you.Inseam: Inseam refers to the length of a pair of shorts. For men’s running shorts, inseams vary from around 3 inches for a pair of split shorts to 7 or even 9 inches. Shorter inseams mean less material over your legs—and more freedom of movement—whereas longer inseams provide more sun protection. Your ideal inseam is the one you feel most comfortable in, but avoid shorts that fall below your knee; the extra material will just add weight. The construction of the textile is also important. For hot-weather running, look for a mesh or open weave synthetic fabric, which will feel more breathable on your body (though it will offer less protection from wind and chilly temps). In addition, many high-end performance garments come with antimicrobial treatments to ward off smells. It’s a nice feature to have, especially if you don’t want to wash your shorts after every run. Features to Look For One of the most important considerations with any performance running apparel is the material it’s made from, and shorts are no exception. Sure, you can log miles in your favorite cotton loungewear, but it definitely won’t be a comfortable experience. In general, it’s best to avoid cotton, which is heavy, soaks up moisture, and can cause chafing. Our jogging shorts for men are designed for all environments. This means you can perform at your best wherever you're training. Longer lengths offer extra protection when you're going off-trail, while breathable materials ensure you stay cool and fresh in the heat. Our 2-in-1 running shorts feature stretchy outer fabric and an internal liner for unbeatable movement and support. Meanwhile, compression shorts increase blood flow to your muscles as you run, helping you move more easily and recover faster.

If trail running is your thing, you will normally want a longer pair of men's sports shorts which include a compression layer. The extra length can protect you from the elements, being scratched by bushes and other objects which might get in your way.

While the various lengths provide a basic idea of the type of shorts you need for your running discipline, there are a number of other features to look out for. There can be, however, some confusion about the purpose of these features, so here’s a look at some of the frequent questions asked…

Offered in a five-inch inseam only, we found the shorts offered outstanding mobility with no restriction. If you’re looking for a snug-fitting integrated brief, the liner offers the best support of any shorts we tested. Our fussy tester, who normally wears a separate brief for added support, found he could comfortably skip the added brief. We won’t stop you from running in your favorite all-cotton bottoms, but be wary that the fabric gets heavy when wet, dries slow, and can cause chafing. Plus, 100-percent cotton shorts will most likely do some serious shrinking in your dryer. Some better options are technical fabrics that blend various materials—like polyester, elastane, spandex, and nylon. It can be hard to sort through what’s really important when finding a pair of running shorts. To help, here are the key things you need to know about running shorts. Material Shorts that finishhigh up the thigh provide the best ventilation and range of movement when you run, which is why they are favoured by competitive runners in general. They’re ideal for both sprinting and long-distance road running (such as a marathon) as their technical construction, lightweight and non-restrictive cut makes them the ideal choice for all-out performance. Still, these shorts have a place in every runner’s rotation based on comfort alone. If you ever find yourself with a social event after a run or workout, these are the perfect shorts for the occasion. With eight colors to choose from, you’re bound to find a pair to match your shirt. Offered in both a three and five-inch inseam, our tester found them to run on the shorter side of five-inch running shorts. Still, thanks to a mild amount of stretch, they never felt constricting. The brief liner offers a decent amount of support and hold for such a lightweight pair of shorts. Trail and urban runners tend to wear tougher gearand can afford to wear slightly heavier kit. 2-in-1 shorts provide extra protection from the elements and comfortable support even on the longest of routes. If you’re typically a large, go at least to a medium — maybe even a small. If you struggle to find running shorts with enough volume, these should work really well for you. The waistband is well-made and comfortable. The internal brief liner is one of the more supportive ones tested. While our lead tester typically wears a small, he opted for a medium and is glad he did, as it provided a more relaxed fit.
