About this deal

Situated in a remote part of the Peak District, Tintwistle Knarr is a place for the adventurous soul. Its isolation adds to the thrill, providing a challenging and rewarding experience. Wolf Edge The Peak District is a climber’s paradise that prides itself on catering to boulderers of all skill levels. Whether an experienced climber seeking the challenge of harder boulders or a novice just beginning to explore the thrill of ascent, the region offers an inclusive and diverse range of opportunities. From gentle slopes and accessible terrains to more rugged and demanding climbs, the Peak District ensures everyone can find a spot matching their skills and passion. This inclusiveness has contributed to the area’s reputation as a premier climbing destination, welcoming adventurers from all walks of life to explore and enjoy the rich bouldering scene. Conclusion The Popular End is true to its name, and with good reason. No other crag in England can boast such a concentration of climbing; a kilometre of continuous routes at all grades on some of the finest gritstone on the planet. There are a few other venues in the Staffordshire Moorlands but I can't comment on them as I have never looked for them. Below is the juggy and cramped start of the route up the right hand end of the boulder. Note the attentive spotter (you should see his belaying!)

Beyond the Edge Ltd is based in Sheffield two hours by train from London and within easy travelling distance from Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham and other Northern towns and cities. Bouldering is one of the purest forms of climbing and the Peak District National Park is a world class venue. It’s the perfect combination for a great adventure. Bouldering is also one of the fastest growing aspects of climbing. Add to that the easy accessibility of the Peak District National Park and the well established visit infrastructure (our Hope Valley Guide will give you some useful info if you are a new visitor). Believe us, in this area we really do have it all. What Is Bouldering? With the ascent behind you, the path now meanders alongside the cliffs to the edge’s end, which is pretty flat. Hathersage makes a good base and, as well as being easily accessible by car, it is also well served by the Manchester to Sheffield rail line and regular buses from Sheffield. If you are travelling by public transport we are happy to provide local transport. While there are a good variety of climbs, many of the easier problems are more on the slabby side of things, which generally means you’ll be prioritising technique over strength, and you’ll want to avoid overly downturned climbing shoes.

The best the UK has to offer for mere mortals (apart from the lakes cos its always wet) 299 problems The best footwear is simply a pair of training shoes although we do have a limited selection of climbing shoes in various sizes so we will happily lend you them free of charge if the right size is available. Among the wider Burbage climbing area, the South Valley is absolutely the most beginner-friendly, with perhaps the most easy blocs in the smallest area out of the whole Peak District. All of the main boulders are within a short walk of each other and are situated in a rough circle, making them perfect for the easy and intermediate circuits located there. The Peak District enjoys an extensive public transport network, enabling you to have a full day out exploring the area without using the car. Further Info– There is limted on road parking just below the crag, arrive early on the weekend – see here. Postcode is ST13 8UA. In terms of scope, it’s hard to say which guide covers more of what as both boast roughly the same quantity of climbs. Although the original 2004 Peak District Bouldering was said to favour the harder boulders, the 2011 version now gives good coverage across the grades. The best the lakes has to offer for mere mortals (because it's not always as wet as kez thinks) 29 climbs

The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) provides up-to-date information on crags, along with the latest news on seasonal access, restrictions, disturbance of wildlife and advice on how to start climbing outdoors.

Back North for Bouldering in the Burbage Valley

Bouldering involves climbing short routes on the many huge gritstone boulders that litter the national park. For anyone new to climbing it is a very accessible way to get into the sport. For those with climbing experience it offers a great way to improve your climbing skills. Bouldering is fast paced and you’ll get a lot out of a full day with us. You’ll also be in absolutely stunning surroundings. Who Is The Course Suitable For? Stanage Plantation: Adjacent to Stanage Edge, Stanage Plantation offers a more secluded climbing experience. Although part of the same geological formation, the Plantation has a different character, with smaller and more scattered gritstone edges. These unique features draw climbers looking for a different set of challenges, and it’s an excellent spot for bouldering with a focus on more demanding routes. The accessibility here might require more effort, but the reward is a more intimate connection with nature and less crowded climbing spots. Peak District is well known for its popular climbing locations boasting some of the best climbing spots in the UK. We will help guide you through the different difficulties, locations, courses and experience days. High Neb is the second-most popular area, a little longer walk but plenty of classics thoughout the grade spectrum.
