About this deal

The horns of Carnotaurus were too blunt to be used as weapons and were more likely utilized as display features to attract mates or intimidate rivals. Some paleontologists believe that the horns were larger than their bony cores, and that they may have been part of a larger horn-like structure covering the top of the head.

Carnotaurus had one of most bizarre skulls among the dinosaur world. He had big bony bumps, morphologically similar to horns of the modern bull above the orbital openings. It's likely that he didn't use them to fight, because they were really small and blunt, so they cannot leave any serious damage. He perhaps used these bumps to attract mate during the mating season. After its appearance in DINOSAUR, the Carnotaurus would later appear in other media; it has also appeared in the 2016 animated Universal movie, The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave, as well as the 2018 live-action Universal movie, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Before this, however, the dinosaur also appeared in Michael Crichton's book Jurassic Park: The Lost World where they developed the ability to turn practically invisible. Carnotaurus would also later appear in the video game adaptions of the franchise under the same name. Le Loeuff, Jean (1997). "Biogeography". In Padian, Kevin; Currie, Philip J. (eds.). They even nearly resemble a devil-like T. rex in appearance. Carnotaurus do have many differences from T. rex, such as smaller, useless arms, its obvious horns, and shorter snout. The Carnotaurus was first seen in the 1998 Disney's Animal Kingdom commercial on The Lion King II: Simba's Pride VHS. The use of Carnotaurus DNA to create the chimerid lineage beginning with Scorpios rex means that this dinosaur’s genes have become components in a new type of bioweapon, which has been bought and sold by non-governmental interests in potential violation of international and national laws. The exact legality of genetically engineering new genera for paramilitary purposes is brand-new and largely unprecedented, making it a difficult challenge for the often defunct laws that surround biological warfare. The Dinosaur Protection Group frequently used Carnotaurus imagery to garner public support for Isla Nublar’s dinosaur inhabitants. Although Carnotaurus looked unusual with its tiny arms and short snout, it wasn't the only dinosaur like this.Carnotaurus was a large theropod and one of the largest abelisaurs, about 8–9 meters in length, and between 2-3 tons in weight. Abelisaurids have odd features in their heads, as Carnotaurus had two large brow horns over its eyes, while its smaller relative Majungasaurushad highly bizarre looking knobs on its head. Toro was the third male main dinosaur antagonist introduced in the franchise, the first being the Spinosaurus and second being the Indoraptor. Plus, Toro is the only Carnotaurus who has a confirmed gender, with the other two Carnotauruses, their genders are never mentioned. A number of autapomorphies (distinguishing features) can be found in the skull, including the pair of horns and the very short and deep skull. The maxilla had excavations above the promaxillary fenestra, which would have been excavated by the antorbital air sinus (air passages in the snout). The nasolacrimal duct, which transported eye fluid, exited on the medial (inner) surface of the lacrimal through a canal of uncertain function. Other proposed autapomorphies include a deep and long, air-filled excavation in the quadrate and an elongated depression on the pterygoid of the palate. [1] Vertebrae [ edit ] Sixth tail vertebra of the holotype in A) side, B) front and C) top views, with arrows indicating the highly modified caudal ribs Carnotaurus can live in pairs, and tolerate up to twenty other dinosaurs in its enclosure of various species. Like other similarly sized carnivores, such as Albertosaurus and Baryonyx, Carnotaurus are able to hunt small and medium-sized herbivores, and engage in death duels with ceratopsians, ankylosaurids and other large carnivores. In terms of their preferred habitat, Carnotaurus prefer large areas of grassland and a small forested area in their enclosure, and eat from both the Carnivore and Live Bait Feeders. Three years later, a Carnotaurus was encountered by Claire Dearing's group, which had been sent to Isla Nublar to save the dinosaurs from the impending eruption of Mount Sibo. While one of the Carnotaurus was killed by Isla Nublar's T. rex, at least two individuals were successfully transported to the mainland. [5] The two Carnotaurus were subsequently released into the wilds of northern California along with all the other dinosaurs. [5]
