Even on a slightly overcast morning, I was able to get a nice image of the local church with ample detail: budget phone cameras have come a long way in four years, even if the chipsets are being reused. Even just navigation gestures aren't fully useable on the phone. Dropped frames abound, launching apps means legitimately waiting at times. Everything works, just very slowly. In middling and dim light, the results are uglier still, with extreme noise in dark areas and overexposed highlights, even with HDR switched on. Unfortunately, there’s no Night Mode option to improve matters. For instance, when running Google Chrome and Spotify at the same time, the screen momentarily freezes whenever I switch between the two apps, as though it needs a second to regain its bearings before it lets you use either of them. These aren’t long delays, but after a while they can become annoying.
Mediocre in good lighting, outright terrible in anything else. Misleading animations indicate it's done capturing before it actually is. They diverge again when it comes to photography, however. While the A12 had a four-camera array led by a 48MP sensor, the A02s simplifies things considerably. It has three cameras, with the 13MP f/2.2 main camera supported by two 2MP f/2.4 lenses – one for depth and another for close-up macro photography. And so it proves with photography. Here, the same shots taken at the same time are zoomed in, and you can see that while both are good, the Moto G10 is just that bit more detailed. My review unit is the 3GB model, and it’s possible that the 4GB version is capable of delivering a better user experience.
