As far as we know the White House Honey Brown Ale is the first alcohol brewed or distilled on the White House grounds. George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson made wine but there's no evidence that any beer has been brewed in the White House. (Although we do know there was some drinking during prohibition…) Boil for an hour. Add half of the bittering hops at the 15 minute mark, the other half at 30 minute mark, then the aroma hops at the 60 minute mark. Porter is typically a rich, malty and deep flavoured beer and works well as a style to add additional flavours to.

Coffee & Chocolate: I have included both coffee and chocolate together as they are both flavours that compliment the flavours provided by the roasted and dark malts. Use plenty to get the flavour of coffee or chocolate into the finished beer for it to be noticeable. The porter recipe I have included below is am English style porter of moderate ABV and allows you to tweak to your heart’s content. If you want to you can add more aroma hops, boost the ABV or add additional flavours like coffee, fruit and spices. Ingredients Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. You will need to use more fruit in a porter than other beer style to get enough flavour to compete with the dark malts. The use of a LME will undoubtedly produce a beer of pure quality, depth, body and flavour than options 1 or 2 above. The ABV will be determined by the use of a hydrometer In an 12 qt pot, steep the grains in a hop bag in 1 1/2 gallons of sterile water at 155 degrees for half an hour. Remove the grains. Sherwood Pale Ale 3.9%– The perfect sessionale pale for any occasion. A citrus burst from this pale ale will leave you wanting after every sip. Ed. Note: There's been a lot of buzz online recently about the recipe for the White House Honey Ale and White House Honey Porter, including a popular petition on We the People, the White House's online petition platform.

However, we recommend to you, to use 1.5kg of unhopped liquid malt extract (LME) – again the colour appropriate to the type of beer being made (see colour guide below). Inspired by home brewers from across the country, last year President Obama bought a home brewing kit for the kitchen. After the few first drafts we landed on some great recipes that came from a local brew shop. We received some tips from a couple of home brewers who work in the White House who helped us amend it and make it our own. To be honest, we were surprised that the beer turned out so well since none of us had brewed beer before. When returning goods we recommend you use a signed for delivery service, and request that you obtain proof of postage. The JSESSIONID cookie is used by New Relic to store a session identifier so that New Relic can monitor session counts for an application.Hops: Hops can vary quite widely in a porter depending on the style being brewed. English versions will predominantly use English hops, American versions can emphasise hops more using really aromatic hops and even dry-hopping although this isn’t always the case. Loxley Golden Ale 4.2% Our Loxley Golden Ale is brewed with a hint of honey, making a wonderful balance between a malt flavour with a sweet finish. Amber / Bitter I'm not sure what the deal is with the taste - I'm not recognising any honey what-so-ever. I get a watery roasted caffeine flavour and spicy bitterness. All sizes and measurements are approximate but we do try to make sure that they are as accurate as possible. I was really, really excited when I first saw this in a shop tonight. It's limited release and I hope is from the most recent batch (otherwise I'd be worried about its age).

Guinness Extra Stout was originally known as Guinness Extra Superior Porter so a large part of the difference comes down to marketing. Steriliser - Not equipment but is essential part to keep all equipment clean and sterilised when used Water - Beer is made from 95% water. Tap water will be fine, filtered is better to remove the chlorine will help give you the best result. Wood: Using oak chunks soaked in alcohol works well in higher ABV beers that are really rich. You need a stronger porter otherwise the wood will completely overwhelm everything else. Porter Recipeboags get extra points simply for doing what cascade has refused to do with their seasonal beers, and thats go out on a limb. this is the type of beer youd expect from a micro, so these guys get a boquet from me for the attempt. Yeast: Predominantly, neutral or medium ester producing ale yeasts are used for fermenting porter. S-04 and US-05 are common dry yeasts. Liquid yeast strains have a lot more options but mainly focused on British or US strains.

Hops can be subtle with just enough bitterness to balance the malt or in American porters be quite bold with dry hopping and aroma hops used in abundance. Add 2 gallons chilled sterile water into the primary fermenter and add the hot wort into it. Top with more water to total 5 gallons. There is no need to strain.Smoked porters, of course, must include a smoked element which is typically a portion of smoked malt.
