Her performance looks were colorful and included a gold upper lined and bleeding red messy cupid's bow, gold shadows, bright pink lips, and shadows, with a nod to an overall period look." [11] On Lucy Gray's "granny boots": “What can I put her in, that’s going to allow her to crawl through these tunnels and scurry up walls and, and get around?” [Summerville] wondered. “I wanted to give her something that was really attractive, and had a little bit of sex appeal and glamour to it. She’s a bit of a cancan girl, but then also give her ankle support.” [10] Summerville and director Francis Lawrence decided to base the early Capitol aesthetic on post-WWII Americana in the 1940s-50s. [10] At one point, I’m gonna say we were seeing a hundred people a day? We would get the person’s head shot and sizes the day before. That night I would go and set up fittings, and put looks together, and then put out, say, three to four different options. So we did individually fit every single person that’s at the party. Well, when you do these costumes, each one is your children, and they all present their own problems and issues. Perhaps the biggest problem — even bigger than dealing with visual effects — was the weather where we were shooting [in North Carolina]. It was 90, more like 100 degrees, and 100 percent humidity.

So many things we had to worry about technically, how they worked. The wedding dress is definitely one of them. We had to have it so that she could spin, and it would twirl when she twirled. That wedding dress was quite heavy. I spoke with the designer of the dress, Tex Saverio, via Skype on a lot of it. He built this kind of hoop underneath, to make sure it stayed light. The spinning worked, surprisingly, really, really well. When she was onstage, I was pretty surprised at how much air it did catch.Yes. I’d done this before — I designed the first Harry Potter — and you don’t want to disappoint the fans. Things change when you do a film, but you try the best — I try the best I can to be respectful of the material and the characters. I mean, it’s mostly about the characters, and even if you can’t do every detail that’s in a book, you want to get the essence of that character across. In the book, they’re kind of described as sheer blue jumpsuits. And, again, when you’re writing, you know, you can visualize, and this is great. But I have to say, every actor that came in for the fitting, before they saw the costume was like, “Are we wearing sheer?” [ Laughs] It was everyone’s concern. The male tribute and Foxface wore costumes that reflected light and shone whenever the tributes turned around. The glittering, eye-catching silver represents the color of wires and other power-like items. Their costumes represented a solar panel. [1] District 6 - Transportation [ ] For the 75th Hunger Games, the tributes had electric-light-studded outfits. [3] District 4 - Fishing [ ]

Is that something you took into account when you chose what they would be wearing, what the actors underneath were like?

Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. Of course, my immediate thought was, “Oh dear, how do I do all that?” That was the absolute terror factor that comes in the minute I read something. But I loved the books.
