About this deal

The MC‑101 and MC‑707 have an almost ridiculously powerful digital synth engine at their heart: Roland's ZEN-Core. Each instance of the synth has four layers ('Partials'), all with their own Oscillator, Filter, VCA, LFOs and Envelopes. Oscillator modes include a classic virtual analogue with many shapes, all of which can be pulse-width modulated. There's also a super saw and a noise mode. Then there's a PCM mode, greatly increasing versatility by allowing sample-and-synthesis sound design. But there's more: Oscillator cross modulation is available between partials 1-2 and 3-4, with X‑Mod, Ring and Sync modes! Want some help getting started with your MC-101? Roland have created a full video manual to help you along the way. Specifications An array of filters and other effects are also on board for you to run your entire mix through them for an overall polish on your music. These include filters, bit-crushes and a master bus compressor for really getting the most out of your projects. Connect To Your DAW

SD Card Protector (installed in the product when shipped from the factory) Size and Weight Width 224 mm As well as multiple LFOs and Envelopes there's a Mod Matrix with four further patch points. By default the sources for these are four 'SYS CTRL' parameters which are designed to be assigned to knobs as macros. The parameters for the effects in a patch also show up as available Knob assignments. With the MC-101 you get the amazing sounds of some of these classic instruments including the TR-808, TR-909, JUNO-106, 1H-101 and more. Sounddesign interessiert mich dabei weniger.

Like drums, synth clips can be recorded live or entered as steps. The step sequencer handles polyphony and note lengths elegantly. Chord entry is similar to the Circuit: select a step then add the notes. Where notes are held longer than a single step, this is indicated in dimmer light across the step buttons. Selecting a step opens an event list–style editor. If this sounds like a turn-off, think again — I found it faster and more precise than most graphical editors. As well as changing notes, you can adjust velocity and length, and slide the start of a note off the grid. Roland can comfortably claim to have invented the groovebox. The idea germinated with the MC‑202, with its combination of synth, internal sequencer and portability. The earlier Micro Composers — the MC‑4 and MC‑8 — were pure sequencers, notable for being the first to be digitally controlled, and for being disguised as supermarket tills. Roland MC-101: Resampling New Projects start with a pre-populated set of Scatters, but you can make your own. The presets demonstrate the more outlandish possibilities but I was keen to make some simpler effects for adding fills, and also to see if you could make sonic changes without the rhythmic side, somewhat like parameter scenes on an Elektron box. I managed to make some simple beat repeats with different speeds and durations, and a high-pass filter that can be held indefinitely. Again, just scratching the surface!

as Roland’s own tutorials for the above features and many others. Expanding the MC-101’s Sonic Palette Whether it's for capturing ideas when you're inspired, putting the finishing touches on a nearly-finished project or fully composing and producing music from star to finish, you can do it all with the Roland MC-101. Furthermore, the Roland MC-101 is part of an expandable platform so you can add new content for constantly evolving performance. Powerful Sample Player The things that I don't like so much: there is lots of menu diving but at least what you can configure a lot right from the encoders without menu diving with preselect options that make sense musically. If you go deep into sound design there are too many options (and also too many presents) and not the best experience from a sound design perspective. Available format of Looper Sample: WAV 44.1 kHz/16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit, 32-bit float (mono, stereo)

My biggest struggles were the menu and project structure (absolutely unintutive navigation) and the sequencer. I got used to the Elektron’s workflow, it’s quite natural, I got used to jamming and composing and editing on a fly (A4, Octa, MnM). Here I did not even finish any usable loop or pattern in several months. Roland has their own views on how the sequencing should look for a musician and for me it looks they did not evolve much from the programming of tb303’s or anything digital from that era. Roland MC-101: Sequencing Melodies and Notes RGB pads allow you to produce your own original music with tactile input of drum, bass and synthesizer parts. Knob Layout: While the Circuit’s sequencer and all-around workflow can be fantastic for beatmaking, the macro-based knob layout can be a challenge for live situations. Needing to jump between the performance and mixer views was a particularly common hiccup I encountered, which could cause live acts to prefer other devices with more single-purpose controls. The MC-101 comes equipped with a mixture of classic and state-of-the-art sounds with DAW-like flexibility, all in one place. And yes, it includes the Roland classics: TR-808, TR-909, TB-303, JUNO-106, and SH-101.

Designed and built by V-MODA in collaboration with Roland, the Crossfade M-100 AIRA is an audiophile-quality headphone for users of Roland’s AIRA range of electronic instruments and effects. View Product One more thing... Like the Aira MX‑1 performance mixer, the new MCs can tie particular Scatter effects to individual steps within a measure. These are triggered simply by holding the main Scatter mode button. This can be used to create a bonkers effect sequence or buildup. I used it to tie a simple repeater to the last four steps, so I could drop in a fill without switching to Scatter mode. Performance The Roland MC-101 Groovebox gives you high quality sounds and all the tools you need to produce and perform great music anywhere, any time. Small Size, Massive Groove
