About this deal

The only issue, that I had with one of my sculptures is that the sun can change the color of the epoxy slightly after a few years. The UV-rays will eventually take effect and change the color slightly towards white but that didn´t bother me and my painted sculptures are still fine. Take a small amount of Milliput, make a hole in the middle with the end of your paint brush and put a drop of water in it. The top layer of Milliput will dissolve in the water and create an adhesive ‘wash’ which you can use to fill in gaps with a paintbrush. Milliput are one of the world’s leading producers of epoxy putty with a brand that is recognised worldwide. They bill their products as “the epoxy putty with a thousand uses” and their customers range from model makers to woodturners to industrial users.

The process of curing is very different from clay or Sculpey. Any epoxy putty will come with two distinct components, that have to be mixed before forming them. One component is the epoxy putty and the other component is a hardener, that will start an internal exothermic reaction within the epoxy putty to harden it. Milliput Epoxy Putty is waterproof and can be used outdoors without any issues. Epoxy Putty will even set underwater because it does not dry out like conventional clay but it instead hardens because two components react with each other to harden the epoxy. Milliput products are available from most leading model/hobby shops, art and craft suppliers, independent hardware stores and plumbers merchants. Why Milliput? The same is true of all putties in the Superfast range – Superfast Copper for copper and other non-ferrous pipes repair and Superfast Plastic for PVC plastic pipe repair.

a two part epoxy putty Established in 1968, Milliput is one of the world's leading producers of epoxy putties. After the Primer has dried it is finally time to paint the sculpture. Simply use the paint of your choice ( I personally love to use acrylic Paint) and paint your sculpture however you like. Epoxy putty on its own is either light grey or yellowish in color which is not the color a lot of people like their final sculpture to be after they are done. So I get frequently asked if it is even possible to paint epoxy putty and if it is how to properly do it and avoid any paint chipping.

So you can use epoxy putty outdoors however you like and you won´t run into any issues. I have a few sculptures sitting outside in the garden where they have little to no protection against the elements and they are all still fine even after two years.Work your way up the wire trunk adding a layer of putty to cover the wire. Don’t worry too much if it doesn’t look too bark-like at this stage. Once the Milliput wash has dried, you can sand it to make it super smooth or add colour to it with acrylic paint.

Here someone suggest adding a little soap with the water, as this will not only let it mix better, but also increase the drying time, although I think this might be detrimental for the structure. Some putties, like Milliput, will be softened by water while still uncured, but that's more of a side effect of the composition than a feature. The epoxy component doesn't mix with water, it's the filler that's affected. If you’ve had a box of Milliput in storage for a while and try to work with it, you may find that it’s very hard to mix and may not harden correctly. Is Milliput toxic? These colours are particularly useful when it comes to art, crafts and restoration. Superfine White for example is perfect for repairing broken ceramic and porcelain. When tools have been used for applying or contouring Milliput they should be cleaned immediately after use. If the putty is allowed to harden on it will be almost impossible to remove.

TWO PART EPOXY PUTTY (113.4gm)

Milliput is an epoxy putty, meaning after you mixed the two components together you only have a limited working time before the putty has hardened to an extent, that will make it impossible to work with it anymore. But what if you still wanted to add a few layers of detail to your sculpture before it hardened? Well, not everything is lost. You can still work a little bit on your sculpture even after it dried. No epoxy putty will work effectively on a live leak. If water pressure cannot be turned off, then a waterproof repair tape made from self-fusing silicone should instead be used to create a high-pressure seal. Should I use Milliput for pipe repair? If your objective is just a surface coating or filler for minor defects, which doesn't need to be durable and won't be subject to a lot of handling, thinned Milliput may be adequate. But it isn't the ideal solution. Epoxy-based products work best when used as manufactured; start with a product of the right consistency for your needs. Maybe not a perfect repa ir (due to my skills, rather than the product) but is strong enough to hold quite a heavy trim panel. Success with that one has spurred me on to repair another more visible trim panel and having learned a couple of techniques from the first one has given me a much improved repair. Milliput sounds like the dream material so I wanted to look into it a little more to find out how it can be used in making miniature models. What is Milliput used for in making miniature models?

First, you have to clean the surface of the epoxy sculpture from any dirt and dust by using some soapy water and a piece of cloth. Then there is the cure time. Milliput is also designed for model makers, artists and other creative types who desire a putty which gives them more time to sculpt, carve and shape. I wanted to have a go at making a miniature tree and wanted to use wire to make the armature as I’ve watched a few cool tutorials on doing it this way. I wasn’t sure what to cover the wire with until my father-in-law mentioned Milliput. I’d used polymer clay before but Milliput is very different, for a start it’s an air dry material, rather than needing to be baked in the over to harden. Once you are satisfied with your paint job simply let the paint dry and then finally apply a top coat to protect the paint from the sun, from scratches, and more. I like to use either a varnish or an acrylic sealer as a topcoat.
